Introduction

Master program in INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE - New forms of contemporary living

IAAD and the Écoles de Condé announce the signing of an important strategic partnership, which will result in the integration of these two units within a wider reality. Among the joint projects, new courses, new teaching models, and new locations will be considered in order to increase opportunities for students. Through this partnership, unique in its kind, the two institutions will give a new dimension to their educational projects which will give a truly European value: at the beginning of a.y. 2013-2014, the courses France-Italy and Italy-France will be accessible to students of both schools.

This agreement immediately allows IAAD students to access the Strategic Master of Écoles de Condé - as Communication, Architecture and Art Direction of Trade Luxury, Interior Design and common areas and the overall research and innovation - and French students to access to IAAD specializations - such as Transportation Design and Industrial Design. Inside the Écoles de Condé, the new courses will incorporate the knowledge of the language and culture of Italian design, improving the courses offered under the various Bachelor and Master of Design and Graphic Arts (design of spaces, the product of fashion and graphic design), and gradually form a proper area of Italian design.

The Master examines the space designed both in its aesthetic and functional aspects and in those, less obvious, methods of use and symbolic values. It emerges a dual path, starting from the instinct of men to make room, placing its own habitat, investigates the performative value of building, the depositary of the fundamental values of the community. Suggestions and theoretical stimuli become the material on which it's possible to develop the project activity focusing all attention on making concrete what elective scope of a designer.

Objectives and teaching methodology

Design is experiencing a time of strong momentum and spreading. The rapid evolution of production methods and lifestyles increasingly requires adaptability and innovation. Anticipating and stimulating change has become one of the main drivers of growth and a competitive factor of contemporary economies. The traditional disciplinary boundaries are overwhelmed by the need for greater interaction, ability to work in groups and technology transfer. Designers are required to know new tools of representation and sharing of information as well as to improve skills of listening to the needs.

However, new opportunities open for designers who are asked to draw on the wealth of traditional knowledge without conditions or obligations formal style. The product of creativity, also applied to a theme as old as the living, can become a software that helps us orient ourselves or an interface to manage a home automation application but in any case, it must be time to take advantage of new knowledge to improve the welfare and meet the need for comfort. It seems clear, even from this brief introduction, that the master is not intended only to transfer a pre-established knowledge and consolidated experience as the use of techniques, materials typical of other fields such as literature, chemistry, neurosciences, cinema, computer science.

Finally, we want to give space to the themes typical of professional practice and management of the project and to the team of employees that the customer, considered part of the quality of work of the designer. In addition to the conscience of the economics of the project, students IAAD must acquire the ability to do marketing of themselves - essential to present and understand their work and their skills. During the course, great importance is given to presentations and design contest: students are encouraged to make presentations of their work and supported to participate in national and international contests: the projects must not only meet the designers, but they must be able to be appreciated and understood by juries of experts and the public.
