Private and public universities, institutes and academies provide higher education in Moldova. It takes a student of higher education four years to earn a Bachelor's degree. It takes five years for the student to earn the General Certificate of Education Certificate. The student can earn two types of diplomas. The diplma de studii superioare universitare and the dipolms de Licenta are the two highest degrees earned in Moldova. Only the student earning the diploms de Licenta can continue their education to earn a Master's or Doctorate degree.

The system for education for higher learning in Moldova starts out at the non-university level, technical or vocational level. Colleges offer short-term specialized courses to students, which include, teacher-training, mechanics, construction agriculture, wood process, economics and many others. These non-college courses vary from two to three years, depending on the course of study. The first level of study for the college student is the undergraduate program.
The student will attend college full-time in all fields. This will take the student four to six years to complete, depending on the student's field of study. The student will plan to take one more year of study for required external courses, with no thesis requirement.

The third level of studies in Moldova comes in two stages, the Doctor Habilitat and Doctor of Science. In order for the student to earn a Doctor of Science, this educational system takes three to four years of research and education.
