The government provides education to students living in the country, with most students attending school from age 5 through 16. Texila American University, another option, is considered a high-ranking medical school in the Caribbean, and the only one that provides English-spoken courses.

Generally, students will need to have a 12th-grade education or the equivalent to enroll. The school year begins around August but runs throughout the year with various breaks during the summer, winter, and holidays.
