Study Master in Cyprus 2023

Study in Cyprus

Education in Cyprus
Cyprus has a strong educational system in place that begins with primary and secondary school. Both private schools and public schools are available. According to some resources, as much as seven percent of the country's GDP is spent on education. This makes it one of the top three spenders in education in the world, behind Denmark and Sweden. Both state and private schools are considered equal, with neither offering a better educational opportunity every time.

Like in Greece, high school grades are not considered important for those students enrolling in university programs. Though a diploma is a requirement, students will take admission based testing to determine if the student can study at the school and, if so, what level of courses he or she needs to take. All university candidates, including international individuals, will need to take this type of testing before entering into university here.

Many locals will travel to universities throughout Europe, North America or other areas for their education. There are numerous colleges and universities located in Cyprus. The following are just some of the specific schools available.

  • Dogu Akdeniz University, located in Famagusta

  • The University of Cyprus, located in Nicosia

  • Cyprus International University, located in Lefkosia

  • Yakin Dogu University, located in Nicosia

  • University of Nicosia, located in Nicosia

  • Cyprus International Institute of Management, located in Nicosia

Most students will enroll in courses of study within these schools based on their focus. Some schools offer comprehensive educational options whereas others focus on business or healthcare.

Courses and Career Focuses
In terms of what you can study, there is virtually no limit here for the international student. Individuals can study advanced technology and health care. Financial studies, business administration programs, Greek education and language, arts programs, and much more are available. Students will spend between one year and four years obtaining their education. This depends significantly on the course work and the student's needs. Many students will spend just one or two years studying here to complete a course of education from a home country.

Costs
International students must apply directly to the school to determine the cost of education. Programs can range from €3000 up through €10,000 per year of study. This is set by the school, not by the government. There are numerous study abroad programs available as well. These programs can help making it less expensive because room and board is often provided. However, the average student will need to furnish his or her own accommodations.

Health Insurance
Though public health care is often available to citizens, it is not readily available to students who are traveling internationally. Some study abroad programs provide for the health care needs of students enrolled in these programs. Otherwise, the student must obtain health care by enrolling in a policy through a local provider.

Visas for Students
The Civil Archive and Migration Department of the Cyprus government handles the visas required for students attending a college or university here. In general, a student visa is available, but it is only issued after a student has been accepted into an educational program through an accredited, recognized school. Students must attend school and the course of study must be approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Applicants will need to apply for a student visa after receiving acceptance into the school. These are issued only to students who enroll full time in education here. This is one who is enrolled in at least 12 credits in a semester. These are issued by the Embassy, High Commission, or the Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus from the individual's home country.

Why Study in Cyprus?
With a solid educational system, studying in Cyprus as an international student can be an outstanding opportunity to explore the world's richest histories while living in a welcoming community with a fantastic climate. Additionally, there are work opportunities for those who have ample skills. Though the competition for high-end employment can be a challenge, most look favorably on students who are able to offer something unique and intriguing. Employers are always looking for the most modern new hire. Additionally, the cultural aspects of this region make it well worth investing time into as a student. For many, it is the ideal place to live.
