Best New University Campuses in Europe | 2022 Guide

TBS in Barcelona

TBS in Barcelona is one of Europe's newest and most exciting business schools. Attracting 700 students from all over the world every year, TBS is a truly international learning environment set in an inspiring cosmopolitan city packed with culture and career opportunities.

TBS is preparing for another huge step in its global journey. Opening in September 2022, TBS's new, state-of-the-art campus is where education, management, and innovation will come together, transforming TBS into the new flagship in the epicenter of Barcelona's start-up ecosystem.

The TBS 22@ campus will have seven floors spread over more than 8,000 square meters. That creates enough space for over 1,100 students and 15 world-class lecturers and researchers, doubling TBS' current capacity. As well as classrooms with all the latest learning technologies, there will also be dedicated spaces for private study and group work, as well as a start-up incubator for transforming new ideas into innovative projects in the true entrepreneurial spirit. Other facilities will include a canteen and a 700-bedroom student hall residence right on campus.

Designed to meet the needs of students and the planet, TBS 22@ is an excellent example of responsible and sustainable architecture. The new buildings' eco-friendly features were designed to the highest quality sustainability standards set out by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification.

The new campus will stand right in the heart of the Poblenou district, one of Barcelona's most exciting spaces. A former abandoned industrial area, Poblenou was part of a Barcelona City Council project to transform 200 hectares of unused land into a 21st-century business, education, and start-up hub. Poblenou is now a thriving compact district where companies work alongside universities in research and training to create the next generation of business leaders.

"Barcelona is and will be our home for many years," says Olivier Benielli, Director of TBS in Barcelona. "The new TBS campus will respond to everything it has to offer by promoting the talent of our students and an academic community willing to launch inspiring projects, bringing important contributions to this amazing city."

Study options at TBS include a three-year bachelor's degree in business management. You'll learn the fundamentals of business management in year one. Years two and three are geared toward your business specializations, such as marketing, operations, human resources, and much more. You'll also benefit from a professional mentoring program, setting you on the path towards your dream career.

Some of the most popular postgrad study options include a Master's program in Marketing Management and an MSc in Fashion & Luxury Marketing. These MSc programs are taught by a highly experienced faculty made up of world-class academics and industry professionals. They'll teach you the skills you need to become a top marketing professional. Over 90% of TBS Barcelona's MSc graduates find employment within just four months of graduating. And 63% of internships end with job offers in roles directly related to the student's course of study.

Barcelona

Barcelona is also becoming a hub for eco-friendly, sustainable policies and businesses. Hip districts like Gra de Gràcia are lined with 'zero waste' stores, organic food markets, and boutiques selling sustainable fashions.

Abdel Boukabous is originally from Algeria. He explains life as a TBS student in Barcelona: "Barcelona has been the perfect city to live in during my Master's degree. It offers everything you need. The weather, the culture, and the melting pot you find here is an endless source of inspiration."

Erasmus University Rotterdam

Located in the center of bustling Rotterdam, Erasmus University Rotterdam is one of the Netherlands' leading public research institutes.

Erasmus has seven world-class faculties and focuses on four key areas: health, economics, governance, and culture. And like all of the world's most-forward thinking schools, Erasmus Rotterdam is committed to sustainability and green thinking.

The university's new Woudestein campus is currently under construction. Designed with the slogan 'Building New Perspectives,’ this state-of-the-art, future-proof campus will have a unique wind and solar-powered ventilation system, as well as heat recovery systems, a smart cooling data center, and intelligent LED lighting.

The Erasmus Sustainability Hub is a place where students and academics work together to find and apply sustainable solutions. Student-led initiatives include clothing swap get-togethers to reduce consumption and an on-campus vegetable garden where people can grow locally produced food. Then there's the Erasmus FoodLab; it's an experimental project focused on researching and marketing healthy and sustainable plant-based food.

Flor Avelino, an Associate professor at the Erasmus School of Social Sciences, hopes her research in sustainability transitions and social innovation can help entire cities become as sustainable as Erasmus University Rotterdam. "I want cities that work for everyone, where green spaces and essential services are accessible to everyone, not just to the wealthy," says Flor. "I would like to live in a city where there is ample room for discussion and diversity. A place where different people co-exist while also entering into a constructive debate about what their city should be."

University of Limerick, Ireland

The University of Limerick (UL) sits on the idyllic west coast of Ireland. The main campus runs along the picturesque River Shannon and is just a short distance from large areas of unspoiled natural beauty. It's the perfect choice for eco-conscious nature lovers who still want the experience of studying in a modern European city.

UL has 5-star QS rankings for graduate employability, innovation, teaching, engagement, and internationalization. Its 16,500 students include over 2,000 international learners, creating a lively and vibrant campus atmosphere that reflects Ireland's growing diversity.

UL offers over 70 undergraduate programs in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. It also delivers more than 100 postgraduate programs up to the Doctoral and Postdoctoral levels.

The school prides itself on preparing students to succeed after graduation. UL's pioneering Cooperative Education approach includes thousands of paid and semi-paid work placement opportunities.

And it's an exciting time to be a part of Limerick University. Earlier this year, UL unveiled ambitious plans to create a "university town" on a 260-acre extension of its current campus. The project includes new enterprise-led academies established by local and international firms, creating even stronger ties between UL and the businesses looking to work with and employ skilled graduates. There are also plans for spacious student apartments, recreation and sporting facilities, and green infrastructure.

Dr. Edward Walsh, president of the University of Limerick, says, "The development will be geared to meet the living and working expectations of a modern internationally-dynamic community. In addition to world-class learning resources, we will build upmarket retail outlets, facilities supporting wellness and wellbeing, and a range of dining places. It will make UL one of Ireland's leading enterprise universities and an inspiring place to live and study."
