It is an aim of the course to develop the high level of skills, understanding and leadership capability necessary to enter a career in professional accountancy and to obtain a deeper understanding of the contemporary problems and issues faced by accounting and business professionals.
The Master's element of the course will enable students to develop their studies further by requiring them to complete a research dissertation.
There are several core and optional modules and students are expected to successfully complete eight for a Postgraduate Diploma and eight plus a dissertation for the MSc. Core subjects include auditing and professional ethics; management accounting; business finance; financial accounting; taxation; and professional computer-based systems. There are four core modules in Semester I, and two core modules plus two optional modules in Semester II.
Electives can be chosen from a number of relevant postgraduate modules already offered by the Faculty, e.g. research methods; strategy and marketing management; and e-commerce.
You will normally be expected to have successfully completed the research methods elective before enrolling for the dissertation.
