Introduction
Help to design the world we live in. Explore mechanics, automation, electronics and computing on our four-year Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree – and graduate with a Master's qualification.
As a Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering student at ARU, you’ll use manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics and structural analysis to analyse, calculate, model and experience a range of engineering concepts. You’ll specialise in computer-based advanced design, simulation and modelling.
This combined bachelor's and Master's degree course prepare you to work toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) status when you graduate.
Based in Chelmsford, you'll use our dedicated engineering labs which include CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centres, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment, and much more.
You’ll build your CV not only by learning manufacturing and testing methods and using industry-standard equipment but by solving problems and carrying out research. Our Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering course is project-based and you'll be hands-on from Year 1. You'll spend time working on projects with other engineering students, developing your teamwork, management and leadership skills and learning how to analyse and solve problems creatively.
You'll also meet established engineers from across the industry, learn what it’s like to work in engineering, and be encouraged to join professional bodies, building valuable contacts and knowledge.
At ARU, our expert staffs are experienced industry professionals and researchers who will guide and advise you throughout the course.
All our engineering courses are in line with the new Engineering Council requirements (AHEP 4.0). Accreditation for our MEng (Hons) Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree has been arranged when full student output from the course is available.

Career Opportunities
Our Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering MEng put you in a position to apply for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status after a period of initial professional development in the industry.
Robotics and automation are exciting, fast-developing fields where your up-to-date knowledge and skills will be highly valued. Combined with your more general mechanical engineering skills, you’ll be in demand in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, renewable energies, 3D printing and much more. Qualified mechanical engineers command an impressive average salary, and you could increase your earning power by progressing to senior design or project management. Your high-level numerical and problem-solving skills will also appeal to employers outside of the engineering sector, for example in IT, finance, business and education.
Graduation doesn't have to be the end of your time with us. You could also choose to start a research career by progressing on to our Engineering and the Built Environment PhD. Take advantage of our Alumni Scholarship and get a discount on your fees.
