The University of Verona (Italy) offers a two year (120 ECTS) Masters Program (Laurea Magistrale) in Mathematics taught in English, designed according to the standards of ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry). It is one of the six Masters taught in English at the University of Verona.
The Program has a strong international flavor, with many classes held by international visiting faculty. It offers courses in pure and applied mathematics, with a special attention to financial mathematics and applications of mathematics in other sciences. The approach is interdisciplinary and involves researchers from physics, computer science, life and health science, economics.
There is also an exchange program with the Master's Program in Mathematics of the University of Trento, allowing students to attend courses offered by that university, and there are bilateral agreements with several European universities inside the Erasmus program.
Students having completed the Master's program will be able to work in banks and industry, to collaborate with other scientists in interdisciplinary research teams, or to enroll in a Ph.D. program (for instance the Joint Ph.D. Program in Mathematics by the Universities of Trento and Verona).
There is also the possibility to follow a profile in foundations and teaching of mathematics (partially taught in Italian) that prepares for high school teaching.
Target students have a Laurea Triennale or an equivalent foreign degree (Bachelor), with a strong basic training in Mathematics.
Future students should carefully read the International page at the webpage of the University of Verona (video presentation of the university).
Internship, Mentors, Thesis
There is a wide choice of Internships (both within University of Verona research teams and at external facilities) - e.g. banks, insurance companies, R&D department in the private sector, where mathematics is applied to a variety of different scientific subject areas (e.g. computer science, biology and biotechnology, health sciences). Interested students also have the possibility to practice teaching at the high school level.
An individual mentor from the academic staff is assigned to each student. The mentor advises and helps the student during her/his program.
Thesis and Research
The Degree is awarded after the public defense of a Master's Thesis, written under the supervision of an academic advisor. Topics range from Algebra, Analysis and Applied Mathematics, to Mathematics Education and Applications of Mathematics to other sciences such as Physics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, and Economics.
Graduate students have the possibility to apply for a joint Ph.D. program in Mathematics of the Universities of Trento and Verona.
Future students should carefully read the International page at the webpage of the University of Verona. They can also contact current and former students on the official Facebook page.
For common services, such as housing, visa, health insurance, permit of stay etc., please contact the International Student Union.
