This full-time Master’s Course in Alta Moda, Fashion Design is designed for graduates who want to complete and/or deepen their skills, cultural and professional training in this high-end unique sector of the fashion industry, from research, experimentation, innovative design through to implementation. Often reserved for the few this sector is becoming an increasingly important tool of communication of Luxury brands, along with collections of Pret à Couture and Made to Measure.
The Master’s in Alta Moda is one of the first projects in the world, dedicated to the system of Haute Couture, a hidden world inside the “Maison” and the Couturier’s Atelier.
Rome is the perfect city to host such an ambitious Master’s project. Italian Alta Moda was born in Rome, the city where the contamination between couture and “superior craftsmanship”, historic architecture, ancient and contemporary art, a unique place where you can “redefine beauty” and live in an inspirational atmosphere nurturing creativity and experimentation.
The Master’s in Alta Moda, Fashion Design aims to become the benchmark for future aspiring couturiers. The course is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education as a Master’s degree with 60 credits (CFA / ECTS) and will be held in collaboration with Maison Valentino.
The course is divided according to the process of creating a collection of Haute Couture and Pret a couture, both go hand in hand, to provide the cognitive tools and research to support the couture project; fundamentally to this is materials research and technical fabrics development for both indoor and outdoor, the study of new trends and analysis of the needs of the target market, design, technical development, the balance of toils / prototypes and experiments, all aimed at the creation and communication of a collection of a high level that expresses the stylistic codes of a brand.
At the end of the course, students will be equipped to pursue a career within the fashion system able to play a variety of roles professionally and creatively: designers, product managers, fabric researchers, designers/artisans and/or entrepreneurs themselves.
Candidates that may apply for the Master’s degree with:
- Academic Diploma of a first level / recognised Degree in a related subject to the course: YES
- Academic Diploma of a first level / recognised Degree in subjects not specifically related to course: YES, after evaluation of the Course Committee on the suitability of the candidate.
- Professionals with proven experience and/and students who have not completed a recognised undergraduate degree but private courses within the subject area of the course: YES, if accepted by the Course Committee and will only be eligible to receive a certificate of participation.
The course duration is one academic year and attendance is mandatory. However, to be accepted at the final assessments students must have at least 80% proven attendance.
The course consists of theoretical lessons, seminars, with experts in the field, practical workshops, guided tutorial support one to one and self-directed study. Visits to ateliers and workshops to study embroidery, accessories and finishes and construction techniques typical of couture also to textile companies and fairs, museums galleries and exhibitions make the course vibrant and relevant to the subject.
The course has a closed number of places available to maintain the quality at this high level of study. As part of the application procedure applicants are required to successfully pass an interview along with the presentation of a Fashion Portfolio.
At the conclusion of the Master’s course, the successful graduates will receive a First Level Master’s awarded (60 credits ECTS) from Accademia Costume & Moda recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
After having completed the information request on our website, the candidates will be contacted by the Information, Marketing and Orientation Office that will invite them for an interview. The interview can be taken on campus or via video conference and will be with the Coordinator of the MASTER Program.

For Non-European students, the Accademia will provide them with all the necessary assistance in order to apply for the student VISA.
Once passed the process, the student will receive all the documentation needed to finalise the procedure. The results will be communicated within 7 days from the day of the interview.
