Sustainability is one of the major drivers of companies' opportunities for strategic innovations. Doing business in more sustainable way becomes increasingly relevant in nowadays society.
In this programme you will develop advanced competences in the intersection of strategic management and innovation. You will also learn to develop the understanding of the modern business environment where economic value needs to be created in a way that simultaneously creates value to the entire society in a responsible manner.
During your studies, you will learn the links between sustainability and innovation. Focus of the programme is on close cooperation between business education and the business community, integrating knowledge and best practices. Your curriculum will include an optional internship either in international companies in Finland or abroad.

Degree structure and studies
The Master's Programme in Strategy, Innovation and Sustainability is a two-year programme. It leads to the degree of Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, M.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Adm.), which is 120 ECTS credits.
The programme includes core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and language studies.
Core studies (48 ECTS credits) include courses on strategic management, technology and innovation management, sustainability, corporate responsibility and business ethics.
Specialisation studies (42 ECTS credits) include courses on sustainable business, strategic management and innovation.
Minor studies (24 ECTS credits) include courses on either sustainability, international marketing or business and technology in Russia.
Language studies, 6 ECTS credits.
The Master's thesis and seminar, 30 ECTS credits, is a part of specialisation studies. The thesis is an advanced research project, which requires approximately six months of full-time work. It is completed during the fourth semester of the degree programme.
Double degree studies
The MSIS programme also offers students a possibility for double degree studies. Students admitted to the double degree programme receive a degree certificate from two universities after they have fulfilled the degree requirements of both universities.
The MSIS double degree partner universities are:
- St. Petersburg State University, Graduate School of Management, Russia
- Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Russia
Students admitted to complete the Master's degree in the MSIS programme at LUT or in the above-mentioned partner universities are eligible for the double degree programme.
LUT Students Applying to double degree studies
The LUT School of Business and Management selects maximum 10 students for the MSIS double degree programme. The places are fulfilled in the order of accepted applications after the student has fulfilled all the application criteria.
There are two possible admission channels to the MSIS double degree programme. The first one takes place in June, before the start of first year of studies and the second one is in September, during the first semester of MSIS studies. You will study innovations from technological and economic perspectives. As a MSIS graduate, you will have the perfect set of knowledge and skills to work in firms that are interested in changing their business strategy to a more sustainable direction.
You may find placement in consultancy, engineering companies, national or international companies, or research institutions.
The double degree programme option provides additional skills to operate in the growing Russian market.
Higher education in Finland is free for students coming from countries within the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. Students who are citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees for Master's programmes. The amount of tuition fee is 10 000 €/Master’s programme.
Extensive scholarships are available. There are three categories of available scholarships: full scholarship (covers tuition fee and living costs), tuition fee scholarship covering 100 % of tuition fee, and tuition fee scholarship covering 50 % of tuition fee.
