Electrical engineering is the largest and most diverse technological field in the world. Studies in the Master's Programme in Electrical Engineering are wide-ranging and relevant to the industry. You may choose to specialise in the conversion, use, and control of electric systems or the electricity market and solar economy.
You will acquire extensive knowledge of how the industry works, and engineering skills and technological knowledge needed to design, assess and improve electrical and electrical systems. You will also develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities that will facilitate intellectual, creative, responsive and professional growth and lifelong learning for continuous improvement.

After completing the Master's programme you will have acquired a comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering.
In this Master's programme, you will be provided a holistic view of the modern electric, electronic and power systems and their technological development.
As a graduate, you will be able to work independently and scientifically, acquire information and formulate solutions to complex problems and tasks. You will be aware of the ethical aspects of the field and its effects on society and will be capable of critically assessing the future prospects of the field of electrical engineering.
You will be able to apply the essential theories of electrical engineering to practical electrotechnical and electronics applications. In addition to technical competences, you may complement your professional skills through business studies. Degree structure and studies
The Master's Programme in Electrical Engineering is a two-year programme. It leads to the degree of Master of Science in Technology, M.Sc. (Tech.), which is 120 ECTS credits.
The programme includes core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies, and elective studies.
Core studies (min. 18 ECTS credits) include studies in energy efficiency and technology and society, as well as laboratory assignments.
In specialisation studies (min. 70 ECTS credits), students select two or three of the following elective modules:

- Design of Electrical Machines 24 ECTS credits
- Electric Conversion Systems 20 ECTS credits

- Microelectronics 20 ECTS credits
Minor studies (min. 20 ECTS credits) can be selected freely from the minor subjects provided by LUT, or they can be completed in another domestic or foreign university.
Elective studies (to attain the full 120 ECTS credits) may include any courses offered by LUT.
The Master's thesis and seminar, 30 ECTS credits, is a part of specialisation studies. The thesis is an advanced research project, which requires approximately six months of full-time work. It is completed during the fourth semester of the degree programme.

Double degree studies for students from partner universities
Students from partner universities are able to study as a double degree student at LUT. Students admitted to the double degree programme receive a degree certificate from two universities after they have fulfilled the degree requirements of both universities.

Developing energy systems, energy-efficient technology, smart grids, electrifying transportation, and electricity markets employ Master's level graduates in electrical engineering now and in the future.
New experts are needed for product development, sales, marketing, and management. Your duties may include e.g. the design of electric devices and their production, product development, technical sales or production management.
The need for engineers in electricity retail is also growing. Moreover, power plants are undergoing changes as private solar and wind power plants are increasing. In other words, graduates in electrical engineering have ample job opportunities in industry and the public sector.
LUT's electrical engineering training has been the launching pad for a number of important actors and growing companies in the field, some of which are based in Lappeenranta. Job opportunities are available in large international corporations as well as small and medium-sized companies in the field.
You will also have a firm basis for doctoral studies in the field of your specialisation studies.
