Intended learning outcomes
After completing the programme, you will be familiar with a wide range of business analytics methods and be able to model and solve data-based business and industrial problems independently.
You will be able to:
- describe and use a wide variety of business analytics methods in a business or an industry context
- understand how business analytics can be used in business development and in developing industrial processes
- learn to use and to apply a selection of modern business analytics tools and software to solving real-world problems with real-world data
- demonstrate hands-on skills in applying business analytics to real-world business and industrial problems
- conduct an independent scientific research project, and report on and present it professionally
Degree structure and studies
The Master's programme in Business Analytics is a two-year study programme. It leads to the degree of Master of Technology, M. Sc. (Tech.), which is 120 ECTS credits.
The programme includes core and specialisation studies in business analytics and minor studies in practical business and industry analytics.
Core studies (19 ECTS credits) include courses on the background, basics, and tools of business analytics and business development, such as information systems in corporate management and decision-making and databases in business analytics.
Specialisation studies (77 ECTS credits) include courses on topics such as business analysis basics, systems dynamic modelling and simulation analysis, logistics and scheduling analysis, fuzzy data analysis, fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic, financial econometrics and advanced decision-making methods.
Minor studies (24 ECTS credits) include practical business and industry analytics with modern BA tools and their practical application to real-world business problems with real-world data. Courses on topics such as big data in business and industry, machine learning, intelligent systems in business analysis, data mining, marketing analysis, data visualisation and pattern recognition.
The Master's thesis and seminar, 30 ECTS credits, is a part of the specialisation studies. The thesis is a research project which requires approximately six months of full-time work. It is completed during the fourth semester of the degree programme.
