Effective and efficient management of digital transformation is critical to the success of enterprises and organizations in the contemporary society. In this master's program, you learn how digitalization enables new ways to create knowledge, to create value to the customer, new ways to configure organizational processes, and new ways to organize industry level co-operation between organizations. This two-year program prepares its graduates for challenging careers in the field of digital transformation and focuses data analytics, digital services design, business models, digital information and knowledge management and IT governance.

Study Environment

The programme is organised by the School of Business and Economics, which has been awarded the status of a Pedagogical Unit of Excellence within the Åbo Akademi University. The different modules combine a broad range of relevant pedagogical methods including problem based learning, teamwork, workshops, individual and group exercises, seminars, and project work, together with lectures by the faculty, industry representatives and international guests. The use of different working methods prepare the graduates to meet the challenges of contemporary and future work life characterised by flexibility, virtual work, cooperation, teamwork and demand of analytical expertise and research skills. The modules are taught by faculty members and guests with both theoretical and practical expertise in their respective fields ranging from information studies, information and knowledge management, data analytics, digital services design, business models and IT governance.

Admission requirements

A completed university-level Bachelor's degree with or in addition to the degree 20 ECTS in business and economics or information studies or other relevant studies. In the statement of purpose (motivation letter) the applicant should pay attention to his/her reasons for applying to this program. Eligible applicants are assessed on the basis of their academic merits (transcript of records and the evaluation of the bachelor's thesis/other academic paper) and the motivation letter. The academic merits weight more in the assessment than the motivation letter. Applicants to the Master's degree programmes taught in English must always prove their knowledge of the English language. Most applicants need to prove their level of English through one of the following language tests: TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic. This regardless previous studies in English. Tuition fee and scholarships

Finland has, from the beginning of 2017, introduced tuition fees for all master's programmes taught in English. The fees have been introduced for non-EU/EEA students starting their studies at an international master's programme from autumn 2017 onwards.

The tuition fees for the Master’s Degree Programme in Governance of Digitalization is 10 000€/ year.

In addition studying at Åbo Akademi University requires a Student Union fee (at the moment 116 € per year). This fee provides low cost health care for students, including medical care, dental care, and mental counseling. The fee also allows students reduced prices for domestic traveling. Insurance and funds to cover your stay are required by the Migration officials.

Scholarships are available for students applying to our master's degree programmes and liable for tuition fee. There are three categories:

  1. Full Scholarship, covering the tuition fee and includes an annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses (6 720 €), awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
  2. Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 100 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
  3. Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 50 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)

The decision to grant a scholarship is based on:

  • the academic performance of the student in his/her previous studies,
  • how well the applicant meets the programme requirements
  • the answers the applicants have given in the application form
