A Master in Urban Design is a degree that will develop the student’s ability to design landscapes, buildings and spaces within the urban environment. Graduates will have a multidisciplinary education that includes urban design theory.
Universities in Turkey provide either two or four years of education for undergraduate studies, while graduate programs last a minimum of two years. İzmir Institute of Technology is one of two institutions of higher learning in Turkey offering English-language instruction in City and Regional Planning. In recognition of the fact that keeping abreast of international developments is vital already in the undergraduate stages of the profession of planning. We have developed library; laboratory, and internet facilities so as to enable international research and pursue multilingual thinking in the field.
Today in this country, we stand in urgent need of planners capable of developing solutions to the dire urbanization problems which we face and for which we pay each day.
The department currently offers instruction to 137 undergraduates, 21 post-graduates, and 24 Ph.D. students with 14 full-time faculty members and 23 universities through joint projects with local municipalities and preservation departments. Though postgraduate students routinely participate in these faculty-led projects, the fourth year undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in, contribute to, and learn from these real-life endeavors, thus actively transforming their environment....
