The University of Delaware offers academic and research programs leading to master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees in geology to qualified students who hold bachelor’s degrees in the field of geology or related science and engineering disciplines. Major research emphases are in ​coastal geology, ​geomicrobiology, ​geochemistry,​ ​geomorphology,​ ​geophysics, ​hydrogeology,​ ​mineralogy, petrology, ​stratigraphy ​​and ​Quaternary geology.

The department offers programs leading to the master of arts, master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees in geography. Each graduate degree is highly individualized. Students work closely with their advisory committee to design and complete the graduate degree in physical geography, human geography or coupled human-environment systems.

It is the belief of the graduate faculty that success in the highly competitive field of art is premised on the strength of the artwork and the artist’s active participation in the local and global discussion of the ideas surrounding creative activity. We work to maintain a high level of discussion about what constitutes a powerful artistic practice and product.

The purpose of the M.S. in finance program is to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to be innovative, well-informed and experienced finance professionals. The curriculum is based on the financial theory and empirical methods employed by professionals practicing corporate finance, financial security valuation, financial modeling, portfolio management, financial services management, financial risk management and corporate governance.

The Environmental Economics programs train students in state-of-the-art economics and policy analysis pertaining to environmental issues, combining an emphasis on quantitative approaches with unique strengths in interdisciplinary and marine applications such as fisheries, offshore energy, coastal land use, sea level rise, and climate change. Students study how to manage environmental resources, evaluate the effectiveness of policies, ensure sustainability and environmental justice, and address local and global environmental change.

The Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology offers programs leading to the master of science in entomology, M.S. in wildlife ecology and the doctor of philosophy in entomology and wildlife ecology. Graduate students in these fields couple a focus on insects or vertebrates with a broad knowledge of other related fields of biology, especially ecology. The M.S. degree programs prepare students for pursuit of the Ph.D. While it is possible to go directly to the Ph.D. program, the department faculty prefers that students complete the M.S. before being admitted or reclassified into the doctoral degree program in entomology and wildlife ecology.

The M.S. in data science is a professional master's degree with a flexible set of core requirements in statistics, mathematics and computer and information sciences. It is aimed at providing a solid background in the methods behind data science to work with large and/or dynamic data sets. The program provides both the breadth of training and the flexibility to apply it in different fields. The flexibility allows for training in different categories of positions in data science. Data analysts use mathematical, statistical and modeling techniques to solve problems; data engineers design, build and maintain an organization’s data and analytical infrastructure; and data scientists create sophisticated analytical models to build new data sets and derive new insights from data.

UD's disaster science and management (DISA) program offers programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees. It is an interdisciplinary program that draws faculty from several different units including the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, the School of Nursing and the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment. The program is administered through the Disaster Research Center and the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration. Two graduate degree programs are offered: a master of science (M.S.) and a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.).

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers a master of arts and a doctor of philosophy degree program in both sociology and criminology. The primary focus of the program is the preparation of members of the next generation of sociologists and criminologists by emphasizing systematic training in theory and research methodology as well as teaching. These advanced education degrees are intended for people interested in careers in academia, public service or private enterprise.

The Department of Communication offers a master of arts degree in communication. A graduate student may concentrate in any of the department’s areas of emphasis or can select a more general program. In either case, the coursework and related elements of the program provide the student with the necessary background to undertake the research required to complete an M.A. thesis or to pass the comprehensive examination for successful completion of the degree. The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers programs of study leading to the degrees of master of science and doctor of philosophy in applied mathematics or mathematics. The department also offers a 4+1 B.S./M.S. program that allows students to complete both the bachelor of science degree in any undergraduate major administered by the department and the M.S. degree in a total of five years of full-time study.

The program in agricultural and resource economics leads to the master of science degree and offers students the perspectives and skills necessary to understand and work in the general fields of economics, resource economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, applied economics, agribusiness or government sectors of the economy.

The M.A. program in economics and entrepreneurship for educators is designed to provide secondary and primary school teachers with both a foundation in economic theory and a set of strategies and methods for teaching economics in secondary and elementary schools. The program is designed to train teachers who have been identified as exceptional teachers in their region. Graduates of the program are expected to provide economic education leadership in their state and region.

The Department of Economics offers programs leading to Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in economics. The Ph.D. and M.S. programs emphasize strong economic and econometric analysis with areas of specialization including development economics, household and consumer finance, industrial organization, labor economics, applied macroeconomics and environmental economics.
