This program offers a flexible framework within which you can develop knowledge and skills in Islamic Studies in historical and/or contemporary contexts. Amongst the strengths of the program is the context of its delivery within the School of Philosophy, Theology, and Religion. This allows an exploration of Islamic intellectual traditions, as well as questions relating to contemporary Muslim practice and societies, in conversation with other traditions and broader approaches in Philosophy, Theology, and Religion.

This religion MA invites you to explore how religion shapes—and is shaped by—the contemporary world. You will develop your expertise with internationally leading scholars in a department with a rich tradition of excellence in the fields of textual, theological, philosophical and social scientific study.

The second level degree or Master of Arts in Comparative Canon and Ecclesiastical Law, issued from the FTL-USI, it stands out for the originality of the proposals compared to study courses of other universities, above all for the attention given to theological training in a comparative perspective.

The Master in Science, Philosophy and Theology of Religions was activated in 2006 at the FTL as part of the Re.Te Institute. (Religions and Theology), with the aim of training in the knowledge of religions and interreligious dialogue in an increasingly multicultural world. Since 2014, thanks to the collaboration with the USI eLearning Lab (eLab), the Master has also been activated in an online formula. Today this is the only available way of using its courses.

Studying theology today does not mean practicing something out of time but it is a rational investigation into questions that never lose their relevance: who is God and who is the human being who relates to him? It is, therefore, a matter of exploring existential questions, questions about the Absolute, questions that tomorrow's man will also ask himself, and this not only from a Christian point of view but also from all other religions.

The Master of Arts in interreligious dialogue: Science, Philosophy and Theology of Religions, promoted by the Re.Te. Institute ("Religions and Theology") of the Lugano Faculty of Theology, has been designed to provide extensive knowledge of the major world religions, explain their basic principles, their different structures, and their history. The Master’s course aims to teach its students to promote and develop a dialogue with members of other religions, precisely by gaining an appreciation of other religions and learning how to communicate and hold effective interaction.

The two-year programme focuses on the study of canon law and provides an introduction into the law of other religions (comparative law) and the study of capita selecta. The skills obtained will be applied during the internship and improved through personal research. This general experience will be reflected in a research paper.

The Master of Society, Law, and Religion is designed to provide students with an advanced understanding of crime, public response to crime, and, specifically, criminal justice in Europe and beyond. The program focuses on recent developments in criminological theory and their implications for national and international policy-making.

The MLitt in The Study of Judaism and Christianity offers a unique opportunity to gain comparative and cross-cultural perspectives on these two religious traditions through a joint qualification from the University of St Andrews (MLitt in the Study of Judaism and Christianity) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel (MA in Comparative Religion with a specialization in the Study of Judaism and Christianity).

The MLitt in Systematic and Historical Theology offers students the opportunity to engage at a high level with the study of Christian doctrine in its historical context and systematic expression. It is a one-year taught program run by the School of Divinity.

The online PG Diploma/MLitt in Bible and the Contemporary World is a part-time virtual learning program that connects biblical and theological studies with other disciplines in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The PGDip and MLitt in Bible and the Contemporary World is a part-time online program aimed at both lay people seeking personal development and clergy seeking continued professional development.

The MLitt in Analytic and Exegetical Theology addresses central themes in Christian thought, embodying the academic ideals and principles of analytic theology while engaging with contemporary research in biblical exegesis, systematic theology, and analytic philosophy.

The MLitt in Sacred Music offers a unique interdisciplinary formation in Sacred Music for musicians, scholars, and leaders in artistic ministry. It is taught jointly by the School of Divinity’s Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts and the University of St Andrews Music Centre.

The MA offers the students the opportunity to concentrate on the Qur'an, the Hadith and other Islamic texts, and so provides unique training in the translation of Islamic religious material. The degree is designed to benefit academics, teachers of Islam in other institutions, translators of Islamic material into English in research centres, government departments and da'wa centres. It provides excellent research training and is a useful qualification for those who wish to progress to higher postgraduate degrees.
