In 1978, Hunan University created a computer science program for undergraduates and formed a computer science teaching lab. In May 1981, Hunan University announced the establishment of its Computer Science Department. In 2001, two schools were formed. School of Computer and Communication was formed in October and School of Software was formed in December.
