The Master in Global Energy Transition and Governance is targeted at students who have completed their undergraduate studies. Its objective is to give a deep understanding of the complexity of the current energy transformations in Europe and worldwide. The programme takes place in Berlin and Nice. The programme offers a unique, multidisciplinary approach which distinguishes it from other Master’s courses in the field of energy studies. It analyses the links between the different levels of energy governance, from an international to a local level, offering problem-focused learning at the crossroads of theory and practice. The one-year programme stretches over three terms and takes place in two study locations: Nice and Berlin. Students who successfully complete the programme acquire 60 ECTS credits. The programme is structured into three terms: The first term (October-December) in Nice encompasses classes on the basics of the four energy modules: International energy governance, Economic energy governance, the EU energy governance and Energy and territories. This Master aims to help students to develop a critical understanding of contemporary planning challenges for cities and urban regions, in the context of climate change and growing human needs. The programme is designed so that students may confront up to date scientific knowledge on planning with their own cultural background and planning experiences. Through the Master, each student becomes familiar with the advantages and limitations of cross-national transfer of ‘good practices’ in the urban or regional policy field. As a research Master, this program trains students to deal with up to date research issues and methods. It prepares students to start a PhD or to take leadership roles in urban development and management, especially in an international context.
