Students participate in one or more working groups (research seminars), where they determine focus areas for an initial survey report and then solve challenges at the intersection of cutting-edge research and technology in statistical learning theory. These seminars are built on teamwork, as the tasks undertaken are so complex that they can’t be solved by one person alone. Students learn how to effectively collaborate, bringing together their diverse collective skills, competencies, and experiences to determine successful solutions for complicated issues. Programme courses are taught by leading HSE experts, including globally renowned scholars such as Dr. Yurii Nesterov, Dr. Denis Belomestny, Dr. Dmitry Vetrov, Dr. Andrei Sobolevski, Dr. Alexey Naumov, and Dr. Quentin Paris. Lectures are also delivered by Skoltech professors including Dr. Ivan Oseledets, Dr. Viktor Lempitsky, Dr. Evgeny Burnaev, and Dr. Yury Maximov. MSc, MPhil, PhD - Statistics With ongoing activities in areas like biological applications, statistical ecology, and nonparametric statistics, research students joining SMSAS will become part of a thriving and vibrant research community. There's a well-established system of support and training, with a high level of contact between staff and research students. A very active research seminar programme further enhances the Statistics research experience. Course structure Staff research interests are diverse, and include: Bayesian statistics; bioinformatics; biometry; ecological statistics; epidemic modelling; medical statistics; nonparametric statistics and semi-parametric modelling; risk and queueing theory; shape statistics. Statistics has strong connections with a number of prestigious research universities such as Texas A&M University, the University of Texas, the University of Otago, the University of Sydney and other research institutions at home and abroad. The research interests of the group are in line with the mainstream of statistics, with emphasis on both theoretical and applied subjects. The group regularly receives research grants.
