The International Business programme at the Faculty of Economics is one of the Faculty’s bedrock graduate programmes. It is also one of the most internationally-oriented ones, both in terms of its course offer and student structure. It compares favourably with the best programmes of its kind in the world. It also builds on the specific geo-strategic, economic and cultural position of the region, where East meets West. Obviously, there is only one global market out there, and we are all part of it, yet regional differences still present an important challenge and opportunity in terms of international business. Most companies are going international, we as consumers are becoming ever more “glocal” and the majority of us are communicating globally on a daily basis. These are just a few of the reasons we need to learn more about today’s international business and institutional developments, changes in the global environment, resources and strategies which can all make us more competitive – as companies or managers – in the global business world. Bringing international experience into the classroom: The IB master programme is one of the most internationally-oriented master programmes at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. On average, the IB master programme enrols students of about 20 different nationalities every year, including students from several EU countries (Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic etc.), the Western Balkans, the Russian Federation, China, South Korea, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and North America. In all countries, economists assume the top positions in society, are managers of the largest enterprises and banks, ministers and prime ministers, governors of central banks as well as managers of prestigious consultation companies and analytics departments. Economics is thus one of the elite programmes at the most prestigious universities, where only a few percent of the best students are accepted. It is the same in Slovenia. Economics is a demanding study, requiring an ambitious and motivated individual with good analytical abilities. An individual who will be able, as shown by many examples, to make decisions in a key position in the business sector and in state policymaking. Why? Because graduates of the Economics programme are capable of resolving economic and business problems that other people are generally unable to identify or classify as important. You will acquire knowledge and skills needed for successful expert work in key positions in the business sector or in shaping the economic policy of the state. You will learn how to use complex analytical tools that will enable you to comprehensively analyse a problem in a given environment, since by using economic models (theory), extensive knowledge of empirical findings and a plethora of analytical and programme tools you will be able to correctly analyse data and, based on it, make projections, different scenarios and strategies, assess risks and adopt appropriate decisions. These are the knowledge and skills individuals require to be able to take up top positions in the business sector and in state... [-]
