The Department of Sculpture, Object, Installation intends to connect the tradition with the current perspective of the fine arts. It offers study of classical techniques as well as the latest trends in three-dimensional fine arts, from classical object, installation or interactive scuplture to conjunction with new media, animation, video and videoinstallation. When searching one´s own opinion and style, it is crucial to confront own practices with the tendencies of contemporary art. The offer of specialized subjects varies from figure drawing and modeling to work with traditional sculptural materials, such as wood, stone, plastic, metal or bronze. The Department is composed of two studios with two different focuses. The studio lead by Doc. J. Hoffstädter is about the sculpture (object, installation…) – objective as well as subjective, in the most personal sense. The studio of Doc. P. Kovačovský is focused on sculpture in the architecture or in public space overlapping to other media. The aim of specialized subjects is to provide graduates with theoretical knowledge and practical skills (camera, editing, programming, interactivity, work with audio) to be capable to carry out art projects and also to be able to apply them in their future career. Prof. Ľubomír Longauer, the initiator of its establishment played a key role in its early years of existence. After his departure from the Academy in 2001, the chairmanship of the Department was handed over to prof. Stanislav Stankoci and in 2007 doc. Pavel Choma became a new Department´s chairman. Structure of the Department and its study programmes Today the Department offers education in study programmes of the field of study 2.2.6 Design. Concept of teaching in the Department seeks to combine the study of analogue and digital photography, computer programmes, new technologies and video. Three studios create a basic unit of teaching process and main focus is given to principal of individual free creation reflecting the current contests of contemporary art within the photographic medium framework, frequently transcending the boundaries towards multimedia process. Wide variability of study programme structure is complemented by specialized subjects and a training course. Individual contents are designed in a way to cover the whole range of approaches in photographic medium from the perspective of technology, art and content. Following the studio part of the teaching process its structure is complemented by specialized workshops and lectures. Teaching of specialized subjects is gradually transformed into a modular and block tuition which seems to be more effective model with regard to study results.
