The Department has been conducting its activities within the Humanities since 2001 through the Training and Research Units in the areas of Psychology and Sociology. Presently, the educational offer focuses on the field of psychology in the 1st cycle (Bachelor Degree in Psychology), 2nd cycle (Master Degree in Clinical Psychology and Counselling) and 3rd cycle (despite being discontinued, students are still at the stage of submitting their theses prior to viva voce examinations). As the University is a place for the transmission and production of knowledge sustained in research, the Psychology Department created the Psychology Research Centre - CIP (evaluated as "good” by the FCT, allowing its accreditation with funding), whose research strand is Psychosocial Vulnerability and Unstable Contexts. It has several projects in progress and publishes the reviewed journal Psyche since 2005. From a pedagogical point of view, the PD offers experiential and participatory learning, in line with the directives of Bologna, encouraging students to develop a proactive attitude to their learning process. This concern for consistent and practical training is supported by practical sessions in a hospital setting and through observation of consultations at the Psychology and Logopedia University Centre.
