A master’s degree is an academic designation bestowed upon those who take the scheduled coursework in a specific field and successfully complete the program. Master’s degree programs typically build upon the education foundation acquired in a related bachelor’s degree program.

Just what is a Master in Publishing? This comprehensive degree program provides a solid educational foundation in virtually all areas of publishing, from a historical overview of the industry to a careful review of emerging technologies. Students in such a program should expect to review a broad range of both traditional and electronic publishing considerations, and additional attention is often given to ethics, editorial design, copyright laws and considerations and general marketing and business practices. Some programs emphasize obtaining higher roles within the publishing industry, and tend to focus on areas such as budgeting, contract negotiation and economics, among others.

Students who successfully obtain a Master in Publishing are generally able to command higher salaries than their bachelor’s degree-holding career competitors, and are also typically hired over, and able to secure higher positions than those holding lesser degrees.

There is no set cost for obtaining a master’s degree in publishing. Tuition costs vary substantially from school to school and program to program based on factors like the prestige of the institution and where, geographically, the program is offered, so contact each school of interest to obtain specific tuition information.
