Master in Psychology (5 Years) Psychology is a discipline whose goal is to understand and improve functioning of individuals, groups, and societies as a whole. Students interested in the unitary "long-cycle" 5 year Master program are usually those who want to work as professional psychologists dealing with diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues (Clinical Psychologists) or in the business world, in marketing and advertising or human relations (Work and Organizational Psychologists). For Whom? Students of the unitary "long-cycle" 5 year Master program are willing to pursue their professional career in psychology with the knowledge, that in order to work as a psychologist you often have to gain credentials other than just the Master-level diploma. What is needed are competencies and skills gained during 5 years of study (300 ECTS) and, very often, a supervised training process. Specific requirements vary between countries and regions. Detailed Program Description The first year of the program provides an intensive training in every field of psychology (developmental, emotions and motivations, social, psychopathology, cognitive, individual differences, etc.) and basics in methodology and statistics. We also focus on academic skills and cultural competencies of international students in intercultural and multilingual world. On the second year, majority of modules are dedicated to 4 thematic areas: Behavioral Studies, Conflict Resolution and Management, Mind-Communication-Technology, Cross-cultural Psychology. Students get to know how to conduct measurement, behavioral assessment and behavior change procedures. They develop communication skills, gain knowledge on interpersonal relations and conflict management: negotiations and mediations. Third year involves a continuation of the 4 thematic areas. During years II and III students complete 5 elective modules and 4 foreign language courses as well. Students gain competencies in: bilingualism and multicultural school education, psychology of acculturation and economic migrations, use of eye-tracker and visual communication. They know what is the psychology of leadership and can apply behavioral techniques to various populations and problems. Fourth year of the program provides an intensive theoretical education accompanied by some clinical applications in certain modules. Students are expected to acquire extensive knowledge on child and adult psychopathology and possess basic understanding and skills in psychological help, assessment and clinical research. Students start their MA thesis in the first semester. On the fifth year, majority of modules are dedicated to gaining knowledge on psychotherapeutic process and developing clinical practical skills. There are also two 90-hour applied modules, which include clinical training. Students finish and defend their MA thesis. Specializations Clinical Psychology program complies with the scientist-practitioner model, emphasizing both clinical and research training. The program is thought to be theoretically integrative as we aim to expose students to a broad spectrum of theoretical and empirical approaches to clinical research and practice. As our faculty strongly adhere to evidence-based practices, the program puts more emphasis on cognitive and behavioral approaches. Program places an emphasis on competencies specified in the European qualification standard for psychologists. What Next? Students interested in Clinical Psychology should pursue further supervised professional training including diagnosing and treatment. During your studies you will be provided with basic applied training, but many professional authorities in the field of psychotherapy require at least a year-long supervised practice after the standard 5-year curriculum. Students interested in pursuing a career in science should consider collaborating on research projects on their last years of the Master-level program and sign up for a PhD program just after graduation.
