Study programme have clearly defined, reasonable and valid objectives: to prepare international politics and international economy specialists capable of competent research, analysis, critical assessment and forecast of political and economic processes in Asia, independent investigation, preparation of recommendations and simulation of possible consequences of their decisions on issues related to international relations and international economy on the national, regional, and global levels and manifesting competitiveness in pursuit of career in the private sector working with Asian countries or national and international institutions related to the spheres of international policy and international economy. The focus on Asian studies is due not only to the significance of the continent to the world order in the 21st century, but also to its geostrategic and economic relevance for Lithuania. The study programme highlights the political and economic processes in Asian countries so as to demonstrate the relevance of the theories studied in the programme. Those implementing the programme (as well as the students) believe that such focus is valuable because only a generic viewpoint on the international system to some extent limits the opportunities to gain more specific knowledge. On the other hand, certain parts of Asia (particular emphasis is laid on China, Japan, and India) play a very important global role.
