The programme draws on the vast experience of a range of top South African and international experts in the field. The programme’s depth is its core modules in approaches to the study of conflict, conflict processes, and conflict resolution and management techniques. Variety and specialization are built in through interdisciplinary elective modules in areas such as development and conflict, world conflict, conflict and regional integration and conflict in the workplace. These advanced studies combine distance education in short, intensive contact lecture blocks, opening up the programme to interested candidates irrespective of their geographical location. Once per semester, in March and August, students meet at the NMMU for two weeks of intensive orientation and tuition in the form of lectures and workshops.
