The discipline of material science and engineering consists of 3 subordinate discipline of master on material science, material processing engineering, and materials physics and chemistry. This discipline aims to study the structure, processing, and properties of one material and investigate the relationships of these factors. The mandatory core courses include material analysis and characterization, selected topics of materials physics and so on. The main research area covers valence electron structure and materials design, the theory and application of material structure control under an external field.
The program is rich with opportunities, for both M.S. and Ph.D. students, with a focus on modern computational and advanced data-analysis methods to study geophysical problems associated with atmospheric processes and ocean circulation, oil exploration and reservoir modeling, earthquake processes and crustal deformation. Students in this program receive broad training in numerical methods, mathematical modeling, and geophysics. M.S. students have an option to participate in scientific research activities that include computational and mathematical modeling or field-study projects (M.S. with thesis).
