Nano-Science is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines physics, chemistry and biochemistry, materials and broader electrical engineering field. Nano-science is concerned with the properties of atomic and molecular assemblies, which are composed of tens, hundreds or thousands of atoms under an extraordinary range of conditions and geometrical applications.

A masters degree in nanoscience consists of interdisciplinary courses, which provide the students with a knowledge base needed for full appreciation of research and innovation in both Nano-Science and Nanotechnology. Throughout the master’s program, particular emphasis is placed on commercial innovation. These include semi-conductor electronics and optoelectronics, energy and Nanomaterials, Health Care and Nanomedicine. The main aims of a masters degree in Nanoscience are: to provide students with adequate knowledge on how to control the fundamental structure of the matter at its nanoscale; to enhance the exploitation for both the design and development of new products and systems with potential incidence in a variety of fields, and to develop nanotechnology that is significant in socioeconomic development.

A masters program in Nanoscience can take a full-time 12-months of study or a part-time 24months of study. It involves intensive learning experience and applied projects. The learning takes place in an intensive professional atmosphere. Throughout the masters program, students engage in research in a variety of disciplines, which are related to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

Career opportunities available in this field include research and development of nanotechnology, electronics engineering, medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, physics and other disciplines with the aspects of Nanoscience.

Nanomaterials are found in the center of contemporary technological evolution that has direct impacts on the daily life of human beings. This 2-years master's program of Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology at USTH is designed with aims to provide depth knowledge (both academia and practical knowledge) to students about all aspects of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Two tracks are currently provided, namely Materials Science, Devices and Nanotechnology (Nanophysics); Materials Science and Nanochemistry (Nanochemistry). With proposed courses ranging from the foundation of materials to current trenches in research & development of advanced functional materials together with courses dealing with management, production quality control, etc, students are trained to be ready for the next step of their academic career (Ph.D. preparation) or for a position in the industry (technical assistant or Research & Development engineer). Indeed, most of our master's students received PhD scholarships from reputed institutions in France, the USA, or other countries after graduation. Students are enrolled both at the USTH and at a French partner university. A six (6) months internship in France will be offered to students in the second year (Master 2). Graduated students will be awarded a double degree from French university and USTH. -
