A masters is the first level of graduate coursework and can be obtained after you receive a bachelor’s degree. Earning a masters usually requires two years of full-time study, which amounts to 36 to 54 semester credits.

Study in molecular sciences can open up many innovative and new scientific fields to pursue, including molecular neuroscience, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, molecular basis of monogenic diseases, molecular virology and immunology, and the molecular basis of complex diseases.

Officially known as the Italian Republic, the country is found in southern Europe. The official language is Italian and the cultural rich capital is Rome. Many of the world's oldest universities are located in Italy, in particular the University of Bologna (founded in 1088). There are three Superior Graduate Schools with "university status", three institutes with the status of Doctoral Colleges, which function at graduate and post-graduate level.

Master of Molecular Biology (M.Sc.)

This intensive programme leads graduates with a bachelor's degree to a Master of Science (M.Sc.) within 18 months. After a 3-year doctorate programme, graduates may acquire either the title Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Dr. rer. nat. The semester structure has been removed, different subjects are integrated into a uniformly structured range of courses and it is possible to switch into the doctorate programme without a master's thesis, thus shortening the period of study. All courses are held in English. The programme is divided into two parts. During the first year, lectures, tutorials, seminars, methodical internships and individually tutored research projects take place within 36 weeks. Lab rotation and individual tutorials, as well as the involvement of lecturers from Max Planck institutes, guarantee work that is hands-on and research-oriented. The first year of study ends with one written and two oral exams that qualify for the master's thesis. These may be omitted if good or excellent grades have been attained during the first year of study, allowing the student to switch directly over to the 3-year doctorate programme.Early participation in scientific conferences and courses, as well as the publication of articles in international scientific journals, are also required for the doctoral degree. The doctorate programme enables research stays in laboratories abroad.Social integration also plays an important role. A coordination office helps students at the start of their studies in Göttingen and offers a central contact point during the entire programme.Involved in the interdisciplinary programme of the... final test characteristics.

The activities related to the preparation of the final examination for the achievement of the LM will be carried out by the student under the supervision of a tutor during the training period at a research laboratory University or a highly qualified body under an agreement with the University biomolecular .

The final exam, which involves the acquisition of 13 credits, consists of the discussion, in open session, of an exclusively experimental thesis and which brings an original contribution, prepared under the guidance of a teacher of the course with LM, as rapporteur. The dissertation may be written in Italian or English and must have the typical form of a complete scientific work in terms of general organization (Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Tables and Figures). The decision of the Commission of Science will be formulated according to procedures defined in the Academic Regulations for the Course.... [-]

The two years Master Course in Molecular Biotechnology is designed to provide the cultural background of multidisciplinary biotechnologies for the production of goods and services through the use of biological systems; in particular the course is designed to prepare skilled graduates with scientific knowledge and professional abilities in the field of biotechnologies applied to the study, prevention and diagnosis of human diseases, with particular interest in the development of innovative drugs.

The Master program intends to provide classes organized on an interdisciplinary basis to be applied to various fields of molecular biotechnology, with emphasis on the fields of research, diagnostics, and therapy. Training activities are also organized as stages to be carried out at research institutes or companies operating in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, diagnostic and biomedical sectors. The training activities may be combined with research activities in selected laboratories with the aim of generating experimental data for the preparation of the thesis to be discussed in the final exam. The collaboration with researches of National Research Council Institutes (e.g.: Institute of Genetics and Biophysics - IGB; Institute of Protein Biochemistry - IBP) on teaching and research activities is an opportunity for the graduates to acquire knowledge in a broader range of fields related to Molecular Biotechnology, and skills to operate in various areas of academic and industrial research at national and international levels.... AtoSiM is a two-year Physics or Chemistry Masters degree focused on computer modeling of physical, chemical and biomolecular systems.AtoSiM is operated jointly by:

Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon, France Universiteit van Amsterdam, The Netherlands Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands Università degli studi di Roma, "la Sapienza", Italy

This two-year degree provides a high-level qualification in the rapidly expanding field of computer modeling in physical, chemical and biomolecular sciences. This highly integrated Course covers a full range of techniques: from quantum mechanical atomistic descriptions to coarse-grained mesoscopic models. Particular fields of application include condensed matter and statistical physics, chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science and theoretical bio-molecular science. The study program is divided into four parts. All students follow courses first in Amsterdam, then in Rome, and finally in Lyon to obtain a triple diploma. The fourth semester is devoted to research in laboratories either in Amsterdam, Rome, Lyon or one of our 21 additional partners.Students obtain a triple degree. Admission into the master degree is decided on the basis of academic excellence by a selection committee composed of representatives from each partner institution. Applicants should have at least three years of prior studies majoring in physics, chemistry, engineering, applied mathematics or bio-informatics. Proof of English proficiency is also required....
