The goal of this program is to extend the knowledge of BSc level students, and to learn about different meteorological phenomena, their driving forces, and to gain knowledge on the state-of-the-art methodology that is used in the practice and also about climate change and its environmental consequences. Students have to learn about the multidisciplinary nature of meteorology and the possible connections with different other scientific fields and sectors. -

The LMAST Master degree will form students highly specialized in atmospheric science, among the professional expertise there are meteorologist, climatologist, forecaster, atmospheric scientist. The LMAST program aims to complete the general knowledge acquired by the students, with the bachelor degree in the science and/or engineering fields, by building a solid knowledge in the characterizing areas and by acquiring deep knowledge in the atmospheric science and in the observation technologies. The LMAST program foresees the following 2-year schedule (four semesters). -

The students of our Master's program benefit from an exceptionally wide range of research opportunities, providing them with a choice of five research groups covering several fields from theoretical and experimental meteorology. During the Master's degree program, our students benefit from a number of unique programs that are offered by the "Sonderforschungsbereich" (special research group) "Waves to Weather", the Research Training Group, and the nearby Max Planck Institute for Chemistry and Polymers Research. -

Our Applied Meteorology and Climatology MSc have been accredited by the Royal Meteorological Society to provide comprehensive training for Chartered Meteorologists (CMet). This programme provides comprehensive training in understanding, modelling and prediction of atmospheric processes; as well as the collection, management, supply and application of atmospheric data for the needs of a variety of public and private sectors. The course also demonstrates how these create opportunities or pose problems for the successful operation of natural and human systems. Our aim is that upon graduation you will be able to compete for careers in Meteorology and Climatology. -

The ‘Atmospheric Physics, Meteorology and Climatology’ program leads students to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of atmospheric properties and the related processes. Within the framework of Charles University, this program is unique in its comprehensive view of the Earth's atmosphere as a dynamic system in a broad interdisciplinary context. Even within the Czech Republic, this is the only program providing full-scale education in the field of atmospheric physics, meteorology, and climatology. The program follows from the bachelor's study of physics, in which students acquire the necessary knowledge of basic physical principles (mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and others) as well as proficiency in related mathematical methods. The elements of the study program are primarily focused on acquiring theoretical knowledge in the field of atmospheric physics (hydrodynamics and atmospheric thermodynamics), thus extending previously acquired expertise in this field. Furthermore, skills necessary for practical as well as scientific activities in the field of atmospheric physics are acquired during the study, especially in the field of numerical mathematics, mathematical statistics, data processing, and visualization. Part of the course aims to prepare graduates for basic applications of atmospheric physics, such as weather forecasting, air pollution analysis, and climate research (including modeling and research of higher atmospheric layers). Other subjects of the program serve to deepen the student's focus in particular specialized topics or to expand knowledge in areas close to other physical disciplines (e.g., electrical, optical, and acoustic phenomena in the atmosphere or the oceans). As a part of the study, a master-level diploma thesis is prepared and submitted, in which the application of competencies acquired during the study is demonstrated, as well as the ability to cooperate in solving the assigned scientific problem. -
