Through an approach that integrates both academic as well as professional training, students receive an education that is both current and grounded in reality. APPRENTICESHIP: DETAILS Schedule For the first four months, from September to December, students are considered part- time employees at the company (2.5 days of work); they then work full-time for the eight remaining months. Students are, however, required to attend five full days of mandatory seminars at Sciences Po in the second semester. Supervision: Apprenticeship Supervisor: A professional from within the company who is responsible for welcoming the apprentice, helping him/her integrate into the company and supervising his/her work. Tutor: A second professional (from another organization) who is also a teacher at the School of Communication. The tutor advises and guides the apprentice in the early stages of his/her professional life. Academic staff: Ensure the proper continuation of the student’s academic engagements and monitor his/her compliance with (the School's) academic requirements. Dissertation In addition to the work that they do at the organization of their choice, students are also required to write a 20 to 30-page dissertation. Master's program in International Media Innovation Management -- imim This program is aimed at high-potentials from the media and creative industries – with different positions in their respective value chains. Please note: APPLICATION PERIOD for its next start in autumn 2015 has ENDED on 1st of July! IMIM students have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in fields such as development, financing, content, journalism and production, distribution, regulation/legislation. During the two-year study, they pool their forces together into a media innovation think tank. With lecturers from leading media companies and universities from all over the world (Poynter Institute, Guardian, New York Times, Die Welt, Universidad Miguel Hernandez and many more) and seminars in Austria, Germany, Spain, the US and online, they work together in an international network. The students deal with real-life situations submitted by participating enterprises. Thus, companies participating in the program have a say in the structuring of the syllabus. “The students’ collaboration with academics, management trainers, journalists and business managers is crucial”, says Program Director Andy Kaltenbrunner, “innovation is to be established as the main currency of exchange in an international team.” The curriculum is divided into five one-week compulsory attendance modules (taking place in Austria, Germany, Spain and the US), complemented with e-learning. The LMU School of Film and Television is a premier center for master visual storytelling grounded in humanism, innovation and diversity. The MFA degree is based on a professional academic program and designed to foster original and creative work in film and television production and writing. The emphasis of the three-year, portfolio-based programs is on understanding and mastering visual storytelling in an atmosphere that allows students to explore and express their ideas with ever-increasing creative and technical skills. Graduates leave the school industry-and festival- ready. Students earn an MFA in one of the three areas of emphasis: The Writing and Producing for Television program prepares students for a professional career in the television industry. Small class sizes (each cohort is a maximum of eight) facilitate close collaboration among students in a non-competitive, workshop environment. In this unique program, LMU’s graduates leave with a portfolio of pilots and a webisode or trailer for a series they will write and produce. The Screenwriting program teaches students how to think like a screenwriter through a progression of rigorous classes, constantly updated to ensure relevance in an evolving industry. Writers graduate with a minimum of three polished feature screenplays and two television scripts; they also leave with a solid understanding of the industry and the business skills necessary to succeed. In the Film & Television Producing program, students gain experience in the crafts of filmmaking – writing, directing, producing, cinematography, editing and sound design – with an emphasis on experiential learning. Students can stress fiction or documentary production, and are encouraged to explore both. They are required to shoot three films during their studies, including their thesis film. The Production MFA emphasizes experiential learning and small class size. This facilitates hundreds of hours on two dedicated production stages and in fully furnished scene and prop shops. And you’ll get plenty of practice on advanced lighting and grip equipment and Red and Canon C300 digital cameras.
