A Masters degree is an academic degree awarded to individuals who successfully denote a higher level of expertise. There are two main types of Masters - taught and research.
In a college mathematics major, algebra courses will focus on ring theory and algebraic geometry. The geometry most often studied is differential geometry, which focuses on the properties of curves and surfaces. Logic is another subject that is often offered within a mathematics program.
Oceania also known as Oceanica is a region centred on the islands of the tropical Pacific Ocean. This degree enables students to upgrade their expertise in the mathematical sciences, either as a route to further study or to upgrade their quantitative skills in areas that are rapidly becoming more reliant on advanced techniques from the mathematical sciences, such as the biological and computational sciences. Graduates find careers in academia, government and consulting. [+]
A single two-year graduate degree offered by the ANU College of Science
ANU is ranked number one in Australia for maths teaching and research*.
We offer our students small class sizes and access to some of the best mathematicians in Australia, currently including 15 fellows of the Australian Academy of Sciences, two fellows of the Royal Society, ten recipients of the Australian Mathematical Society Medal and three ARC Laureate Fellows. Our researchers have access to up-to-date computing facilities including the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputer. We fulfil both a national and international role as a “research institute” in the mathematical sciences, working cooperatively with the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) and a number of international centres.... The Master of Science (Research) in Mathematical Sciences provides an opportunity to acquire research skills and to deepen knowledge in one of the areas of mathematics. The aim of the program is the professional development of candidates through mastery of a substantial body of mathematical literature together with original research work under the guidance of a supervisor. [+]
This research degree provides an opportunity for graduates to acquire high-level research skills and substantially deepen their knowledge in an area of mathematics or statistics. Students work under the guidance of a supervisor who is a full-time academic staff member of the faculty. Students may be required to take a prescribed subject in research methodology or any other subject deemed necessary by their principal supervisor.
Students acquire research skills and deepen knowledge in their chosen area of mathematics or science.
Skills in research and the ability to think mathematically are in growing demand in industry, finance and various government organisations. As a consequence, graduates of this course significantly broaden their career choices, and the research topic may be chosen to further facilitate their career paths, for example, in senior levels of market research, quantitative management and quantitative finance....
