The multidisciplinary Master’s Programme in Life Science Informatics (LSI) provides the tools to gain knowledge from models and data. It integrates research excellence across the Faculties of Science, of Medicine and of Bio- and Environmental Sciences with the Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences (HiLIFE), thus providing cutting-edge education from experts in the life sciences, medicine, mathematics, statistics, and informatics

In the Master's Programme in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, you learn experimental research methods in many fields of chemistry, like analytical and synthetic chemistry, radiochemistry, molecular research, and spectroscopy. The studies provide you with an excellent basis for expertise and prepare you to meet local and global challenges.

In the Master's Program in Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology, you get an understanding of the global significance of microbes as processors of life and the environment. You gain the potential and the tools for the development of new innovations in food or drug industry or in other biotechnological applications.

The Master’s Program in Integrative Plant Sciences is a joint Program of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, which ensures an exceptionally comprehensive curriculum. You will be able to study the diversity of wild and cultivated plants from the Arctic to the Tropics, as well as plant functions from the molecular to the ecosystem level.

The Master's Program in Life Science Informatics is designed for students with a background in mathematics, computer science and statistics, as well as for students with these disciplines as a minor in their bachelor’s degree, with their major being, for example, ecology, evolutionary biology or genetics.

In the Master’s Program in Agricultural Sciences (AGRI), you can pursue studies in plant production sciences, animal science, agrotechnology, or environmental soil science, depending on your interests and previous studies. The University of Helsinki is the only university in Finland to offer academic education in this field.

Teaching in the Master's Program in Forest Sciences at the University of Helsinki is based on top level research. The goal of our teaching is to educate students to become experts in the field of forest sciences. Studies in the Program provide a strong basis that spurs on independent and critical thinking. Multidisciplinary thinking and problem-solving skills are emphasized in teaching. Students learn to evaluate forest-related phenomena that influence ecological, economical and social issues.

Upon graduating from the Master's Program in Agricultural, Environmental and Resource Economics (AGERE),  you will be a professional in applied economics in agricultural, environmental and resource-focused fields. In the Master's Program in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, you will become profoundly familiar with experimental research methods in one or more fields of chemistry, such as analytical and synthetic chemistry, radiochemistry, molecular research, and spectroscopy. The studies include lecture courses, examinations and contact teaching, laboratory courses, presentation series and seminars. Compared to the Bachelor's degree, these studies require more independent work. The Master’s degree culminates in an extensive Master's thesis that includes practical research.

How do genes regulate the development and functioning of cells, tissues and organisms? How do molecules, cells and tissues function and communicate with each other, and how are their functions studied? These are the key issues for understanding molecular and cellular mechanisms, whose disruption can contribute to the onset and progression of various diseases. Researchers in the fields of genetics, genomics, cellular and developmental biology, biochemistry, structural biology, and biosciences of health are searching for the answers to these questions.

In this Master's program, the major “Forests and their environments (FEN)” consists of one semester of courses displayed in English and open to international students.

Specifically, this MSc will provide you with an advanced understanding of current and emerging issues in both Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare and provide you with an extensive range of lectures on a variety of topics. Applicants are advised to apply as early as possible and ideally no later than 31st July 2022 for courses that commence in late September.
