GLaM seeks to train a jurist who knows how to find an opportunity in this era of transitions to effectively contribute to the renewal of the current and future regulatory process. Integrated and interdisciplinary study paths will allow GLaM graduates to carry out, in the public and private sectors, functions related to the analysis of law and legal consultancy, as well as interpretative, application, and editorial activities.

LEGS – Legal Studies is a 2nd cycle degree – 2 years Master Program – entirely taught in English, forming graduates with strong legal skills qualified for legal advisory positions in the international context (International Organizations, Non-governmental organizations, corporations) or with an international perspective (national organizations, undertakings).

The main goal of the LL.M. in Human Rights program is to provide theoretical and practical training for future scholars and professionals in human rights, with special emphasis on the legal aspects of human rights protection. Our highly qualified and diverse full-time and part-time (visiting) faculty prepare students to engage in comparative and interdisciplinary analysis of complex human rights problems.

The two-year programme focuses on the study of canon law and provides an introduction into the law of other religions (comparative law) and the study of capita selecta. The skills obtained will be applied during the internship and improved through personal research. This general experience will be reflected in a research paper.

The LLM (Master in Laws) allows students to create their own programme structure, choosing courses from a wide range of subjects and perspectives, including comparative regional law, trade law, law and development, commercial law (including banking, copyright and patent law), human rights, environmental law, Islamic law, dispute resolution, and international law.

Our MA in Legal Studies programme gives students the opportunity to study at our vibrant School of Law with its unique focus on the legal systems and legal challenges of the Global South generally and Asia, Africa and the Middle East in particular. The programme allows students to create their own programme structure, choosing modules from a range covering comparative regional law, trade law, law and development, commercial law (including copyright and patent law), human rights, environmental law, Islamic law, dispute resolution, and international law.

The MA Gender Studies and Law at SOAS is a unique programme, its principal aim being to re-focus issues prioritised in western Gender Studies and Legal Theory on the complex specificities of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. Jointly housed by the Centre for Gender Studies and the School of Law, the programme offers the specialised study of gender and law in relation to the cultures of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, together with rigorous training in, and questioning of, contemporary gender theory. In terms of gender theory, it offers a solid foundation with sufficient breadth and depth to facilitate a range of specialist pathways. In terms of specialisation, it draws on the expertise of internationally recognised scholars of Asian, African and Middle Eastern Studies at SOAS.

The MRes in Law aims to provide students with advanced skills in legal research, the ability to undertake high level analysis of law and legal issues with a focus on areas of research specific to the School of Law at SOAS, a grasp of the research methods that underpin the discipline and its place in the humanities and the social sciences, a grounding in legal research methods, and the ethics of legal research. The MRes in Law is especially suited to candidates who wish to undertake a PhD or professional research in law. It prepares students to undertake high-quality research.

This training combines the expertise in strategic and geopolitical analysis of IRIS and the experience of NGOs and recognized actors of international solidarity. It aims to develop the knowledge and skills at the heart of the profession of humanitarian manager. These skills are acquired by working on projects in partnership with actors from the humanitarian and development sectors. Since 2014, some forty organizations have already submitted some sixty projects to students. The training is provided face-to-face with a common core along with three courses, and remotely in blended learning.

The overall objective of this online distance learning programme is to provide knowledge and an understanding of animal welfare science, with a focus on the international issues arising from animal use in all its forms. The International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law (Online Learning) MSc, PgDip (ICL), PgCert (ICL), PgProfDev programme is delivered by researchers and teachers from both the Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education (within the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies) and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) with a series of guest lecturers from around the world.
