Secondary education programs include courses in professional education, the teaching fields, and general education. Candidates should apply to the College of Education for acceptance to a teacher education program no later than the fourth semester of their enrollment at Alabama State University. Upon acceptance to a program, an adviser in Secondary Education will be assigned to assist in designing an acceptable program. The adviser in the College of Education will coordinate the advisement process with the adviser in the teaching fields. (Students may select the literature-based M.A. or the M.A. track in Professional Writing and Editing to complete their degree. On this page are the requirements for the PWE track M.A.) The PWE track of the English M.A. offers students the opportunity to learn the principles and practices—the techne—of writing for organizations, institutions, governments, and businesses. Students in the program take courses in document design, technical editing, publication management, and language studies. All of these courses draw on both traditional and modern theories of rhetoric, and all offer hands-on experience—using cutting-edge software tools—in the creation and crafting of professional documents. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of approaches to the study of professional writing and editing. For some, the degree will be useful in gaining employment upon graduation; the degree also will make excellent preparation for the increasing number of Ph.D. programs in professional and technical communication. Program Overview

Master in Communications and Visual Languages aims to train teachers to sustain professional projects of communication with visual languages, through the theory applied and the investigation of models of meaning and interpretation, for the development of digital media, advertising, editorial design and digital art or the exercise of teaching.

This master plan is studied in a curriculum of 18 subjects per year and can be finished in two years and required to attend one day a week classes, because we care about our students continue to work to put into practice the knowledge acquired in this graduate.
