The curriculum includes courses specific for Asian Studies, specialty: Korean Studies. Specialised courses are in the curriculum from the very first semester.
The HOU’s Postgraduate Program entitled as “Language Education for refugees and migrants” is designed for teachers and graduates who wish to complete or deepen their knowledge and skills of teaching the language lesson in various languages, as well as develop new resources they can later apply to specific contexts and levels. The modules will provide postgraduate students with a strong grounding in theoretical literature as well as appropriate classroom methodology, course design and an introduction to the key research tools.
The Master of Chinese as a Foreign Language/Chinese as a Second Language in the School environment (CLE/CLS) prepares the students for a teaching career in institutional settings (schools, language centers, cultural services, and embassies). Internships represent a valuable reinforcement to the initial training received in the University of Artois.
The programme is well suited for students who are interested in studying how English is acquired in first and second language settings, as well as how the English language is affected by multilingual situations. In individual speakers, multilingual situations may cause one language to influence another, in particular in the acquisition process, and may ultimately also result in language attrition due to the lack of exposure and use of one of the languages.
This program integrates the study of Russian language, literature, and culture. It does not only prepare lecturers of Russian as a foreign language, but also and foremost multi-skilled experts who have a good command of Russian, who are familiar with Russian literature and culture, who are able to work in joint ventures, and also in their country’s educational, scientific and cultural organizations interacting with Russia.

The Master in Chinese Didactics for Spanish speakers is the only official master's degree in Spain devoted entirely to the teaching of Chinese. It has a strong professional character and is aimed at graduates, preferably in the field of Humanities, with solid knowledge of Chinese and who want to dedicate themselves to teaching the language.
The MLitt in Spanish and Latin American Studies aims to develop and enhance students' knowledge of Hispanic literature, culture and history through textual study and theoretical reflection.
The expansion of Spanish has been accompanied by a growing popularity of its study in recent years. Programs such as Visiting Professors to Impart Spanish as a Foreign Language or the French Educational Reform have triggered the demand for teachers of Spanish.
The Department is able to supervise MPhil and PhD degrees by research and thesis in a wide range of cultural and linguistic subjects. Intending research students should not feel constrained to limit their choice of topics to those indicated against the names of current staff members (postgraduate students have recently been working on a range of topics that include Japanese cinema, Kabuki texts, modern Japanese linguistics and literature, Meiji historical texts, Korean linguistics, and literature, Korean colonial and eighteenth-century history). Research undertaken at MPhil and PhD level is based on literary, documentary, and archive material available at SOAS and also gathered during fieldwork in Japan and Korea.
