Master in Interior Design for Commercial Spaces

IED – Istituto Europeo di Design Barcelona
Campus 6 months January 2018 Spain Barcelona

The Master in Interior Design for Commercial Spaces proposes to work from the basis of a theoretical and practical reflection on the design of the commercial space. [+]

THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH The Master in Interior Design for Commercial Spaces proposes to work from the basis of a theoretical and practical reflection on the design of the commercial space. The aim is to combine theoretical concepts and construction, quotation, and material interpretation, with the understanding that the design practice exists in relation to current society, to the present. Therefore, applying a historical perspective to design, analysing the current situation, and referring to the history of the place will, therefore be important issues to consider. The Master uses Barcelona as its working ground, and so deals with the commercial space associated with a territory where the street is the protagonist. Due to the geographical characteristics of our city, and good weather, much use is made of public spaces. Streets and squares are open spaces that oxygenate the urban fabric; and, within this area of high-density housing, they provide necessary ‘living rooms’ for citizens. Barcelona, unlike American cities, for example, is a “mixed-use” city, a sparsely zoned territory, where domestic life, work, and leisure co-exist. These two characteristics, the use of the public space and the “mixed-use”, makes the ground floor an important place of transition, and a threshold between public and private life. The boundary between the interior and the exterior is a blurred one, where the confines of the street do not end at the buildings, but rather extend into their interior, through its contact with the ground. Over the past few decades Barcelona has been... [-]

Best Part time Masters in Interior Design in Spain. Master's in Design of Commercial Spaces and Visual Merchandising The Master's in the Design of Commercial Spaces and Visual Merchandising (60 ECTS) is obtained by completing two postgraduate degrees, for 30 ECTS each. These postgraduate degrees may be completed in the same academic year, or in different years. All postgraduate courses that are part of a master's degree can be taken independently. PRESENTATION Commercial spaces are currently the scene of a social activity on which a considerable part of the economy rests: the consumer society. The products we consume travel a long way before they reach our hands. Manufacturers, distributors, businessmen, marketing procedures, etc., are involved in this process. However, the space in which consumer products are brought together is also an important area for corporate image, and the responsibility for this falls on the interior designer who designs this setting. Designers of interior spaces should no longer limit their concerns to the construction conditions of the space and the location in order to optimize and make the most of the resources that have been invested in the premises. The characteristics of the product and the consumer to whom it is aimed, the business model that comes from the commercial space itself, the marketing used for the positioning of the product and the point of sale have become parameters of significant relevance during the design process that this postgraduate course deals with. Unlike the postgraduate course on Visual Merchandising, whose purpose... [-]
