The Public History and Cultural Heritage program is designed to provide students with a rigorous grounding in public history and to prepare high-caliber graduates uniquely and thoroughly for the management of cultural heritage. We define ‘public history’ and ‘cultural heritage’ broadly.

The V&A/RCA MA History of Design draws on the exceptional resources and national and international networks of two world-leading centres of excellence for scholarship and creativity, the RCA and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). With a base at the RCA and dedicated programme rooms and library at the V&A, since its foundation in 1983, this pioneering programme has earned a worldwide reputation as the leading MA programme in the field. Our research-led teaching and experiential methods inspire and train future leaders in the field.

The MA in Public History at Queen’s University Belfast offers an opportunity to study how historical knowledge is produced, mediated, represented and consumed in public spaces, in a region where the past continues to resonate powerfully. The close relationship Queen’s enjoys with a broad range of partners across the country, from national cultural institutions, heritage organisations and media through to community-led initiatives, provides an unparalleled opportunity for first-hand experience of how history works and is put to work in many different ways. The close involvement of partner organisations in the delivery of the course through practitioner workshops, guest lectures, field trips and events, as well as the 30-day placement, provides first-hand, practical experience of the wide range of issues, challenges and opportunities faced by the public historian.

The MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Classics offers a broad approach to Antiquity through the integration of classical languages and ancient cultural history. We have strong expertise in Hellenistic literature, Greek linguistics, Greek religion, Latin poetry of the early Empire, and Literature in its spatial and socio-cultural context. We also provide excellent teaching: two of the staff members were already elected Lecturers of the Year. You are going to study in a relatively small and friendly community, with an internationally research-oriented climate, at a vibrant university city with many international students.

The MA in History provides you with the opportunity to explore society, politics and culture in Britain and Ireland during either the early modern (c.1500-1800) or modern (c.1750-1970) period. Using our world-class collection of online primary source materials together with collections of documents and artefacts in local and national repositories, you will produce an independent research project on a topic of your choice.

Modern military history does more than re-fight old battles, however. It can, for example, teach us much about the cultures and societies that find themselves at war, and indeed about the souls of the men and women who do the fighting. Our two-year MA in Military History by distance learning program offers you the opportunity to explore military history, drawing in particular on Birmingham's expertise in the history of the two World Wars and air power.

The MA in the Classical Archaeology and the Ancient History of Macedonia Programme is being offered by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Economics of the University Center of International Programmes of Studies of the International Hellenic University.
