Geology is an academic field of study that focuses on the structure of the Earth. Geology also includes the study of activities that influence the movement of the physical matter of Earth as well as the materials contained within the Earth, such as oil, minerals, metals, gas and water.

There are more than four thousand higher education organizations in Europe, from leading research institutions to small, teaching-focused universities. Europe itself is not as much different than other continents, reaching from the Arctic Circle to the coast of Africa.

The EMerald Master programme was created to answer the urgent need expressed by the European Union to create a resource efficient Europe. As the EU recognised the importance of mineral and metal resources in our modern economy, it also realised that the raw materials industries were facing a critical skills shortage. The EMerald Master programme aims to train a new generation of engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset and a global vision of the value chain, putting the extraction of mineral and metal resources at the beginning of a circle which ends by collecting end-of-life products and recovering valuable materials out of the urban mines (circular economy). -

Geological Engineering is a technically oriented geological study that in the necessary degree covers all areas of geological research and survey activities. Professional education is focused on the education of geologists to which the scientific, technical and economic basis allows for quick adaptability to professional and related interdisciplinary fields. Analysis of economic issues associated with geological and technical follow-up activity, evaluation of environmental aspects of geology, mining and industrial activities, application of computer technology are included in the study. An integral part of the studies is practical field exercises and excursions, where students learn techniques and conducting geological work, geological documentation and geological mapping. -

Our modern lifestyle relies on raw materials. From the iron and steel of our railway infrastructure to the gold and silver in the circuitry of smartphones: raw materials are everywhere. Even the transition to a climate-neutral future requires cobalt for electric vehicles, lithium for rechargeable batteries, silicon for photovoltaics and solar panels, and rare earth elements for wind turbines that generate renewable energy. As the world grows smaller and more hyper-connected, the impact of society on Earth has never been more visible. It is now devastatingly clear that our planet’s finite resources have been used irresponsibly. But what can just one individual do to help? More than you think! Real change requires courage, innovative thinking, and collective action – the same skill set that EIT RawMaterials Academy looks for in prospective students. Are you ready to mine your raw talent, help shape a more circular global economy, and create sustainable solutions for tomorrow? -
