A master's degree is a postgraduate academic degree. One must already have an undergraduate degree to apply for a master's program. Most master's degree program would require students to complete a master's thesis or research paper.
Geographic sciences can include an education on the computational methods and data structures used to represent, analyze and process geographic information. In addition, geographic science students may have the opportunity to study Earth’s physical features.

Master in Transport and Geoinformation TechnologyThe creation and support of a sustainable and prosperous society involves more than just developing new technologies and acting sustainably as individuals. The process demands that we also understand how technologies are adopted and propagated, how our daily activities are affected by new policies and technologies, how these changes interact and spread across space, and how all of these efforts lead to change in the cities and regions around us. Programme outlineThe Master’s programme combines two closely related aspects of the built environment: Transport Systems and Geoinformation Technologies. In Transport Systems, we focus on analysing the movement of people and goods through space, and on planning, designing, constructing and operating the systems that accommodate these flows. Geoinformation Technology deals with acquisition, analysis, storage, visualisation and utilisation of geospatial data using information technology. The programme enables students to either specialise in one of these main subjects, or develop their own interdisciplinary study plan, making use of each student’s unique background and interests.Degree projectIn the degree project, students apply their acquired knowledge and skills to solving scientific problems in the main subject areas of the programme. They conduct independent investigations characterised by critical analysis and synthesis; they learn how to analyse, formulate and define scientific problems, find and evaluate possible solutions and finally present the results in a thesis. In addition, students will gain practical training in scientific communication and presentation, both orally and in written form. The degree project may be carried out at KTH or in a... [-]

Master's Programme in Geoecology
The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science at Umeå University offers a 2-year Master of Science Programme for students that would like to specialize in Geoecology. Geoecology integrates the fields of Geosciences and Ecology. With an emphasis on the Nordic landscape, you will study natural earth processes, climate change and the effects of anthropogenic impact, such as resource utilization and pollution. These processes result in a more dynamic environment than what is generally recognized, and you will develop an awareness of environmental changes on timescales from years to millennia.
InstructionThe Study Programme starts with a field course, Field Methods in Geoecology. After that, you will have opportunities to take theoretical courses and applied courses directed towards field studies, as well as courses directed towards Geographic Information Systems. The programme is very flexible, as the only compulsory courses are the first course, Field methods in Geoecology, 15 ETCS, and the final Degree thesis, 30 ECTS. Courses can otherwise be chosen freely, as long as the requirements for the M.Sc. degree are met.... [-]
The courses in the Earth science Master's Programme provide depth and diverse possibilities for subject specialisation. The courses also give you extensive experience with new analytical methods and the ability to evaluate and present complex issues within the Earth sciences. [+]
