A masters degree in French is a post graduate degree program that trains students to do an in depth study of the French cultural artifacts. The masters program is an inter-disciplinary program and offers the students an interdisciplinary approach to the study of francophone culture and the French language. Students enrolled in the program take a wide range of classes that cover the entire spectrum of the literary history and other complimentary courses in cultural studies, literary theory, history, comparative literature, art history and philosophy. A masters program in French lays a lot of emphasis on research; through it, the students are able to learn the development of original frameworks that are instrumental in the study of the literature works, film, and the theories behind French expressions. Upon completion of the Master's Program, students are expected to:understand and demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in the teaching of the French language: with particular regard to language teaching, to consider, select and use appropriate methods for effective learning of all language skills (production and comprehension of written and spoken discourse); understand and demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in the teaching of the French language: with particular regard to the teaching of structures and functions of the French language (phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics/vocabulary, and culture), to evaluate, adapt and develop suitable material; design, develop and evaluate programs of studies in accordance with the most important theories in the fields of language, communication, and interaction, and to develop instructional materials for the teaching of the French language; produce, analyze and interpret measurement instruments for the assessment of their learners’ language competence; apply pedagogically appropriate learning scenarios using ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) applications in different learning contexts (e.g., face to face, distance), taking into account specific purposes, needs, and learning environments; understand and apply in practice the principles of teaching French to primary school learners, selecting appropriate «learning tools» that correspond to children’s... The specialty of the French language operates about 19 years at the faculty of International Relations and Foreign Languages.Currently, 55 students study the French language in the I-IV courses. The specialty of the German language was established in 1999-2000 academic year and 15 students were accepted to the specialty in the same year. [+]
In the academic year 1998-1999, the chair of Western Europe and Eastern languages of History-Philology faculty was established at NSU and 15 students were accepted. In the early days of its inception, the Embassy of France and the department of its knowledge and co-operation paid special attention highly to this specialty and was equipped with specialty books, art books, technical facilities, audio-video cassettes, TV, videotape, and computers.
