The Art and Visual Culture MA is part of the Cultural and Literary Studies Suite, a cluster of four MAs that bring together academics, curators and practitioners who share a commitment to investigating modern and contemporary culture from aesthetic, critical, literary, and experiential perspectives. You'll share classes with students from the Cultural and Critical Studies MA, the English Literature: Modern and Contemporary Fictions MA, and the Museum, Galleries and Contemporary Culture MA, joining a fruitful and intellectually-rigorous environment designed to facilitate the sprouting of interdisciplinary thinking. As part of our Suite, you may also choose an option module from the other three MA programmes (what is referred to as an ‘elective’ module), a fantastic opportunity to explore a facet of culture outside of your chosen MA programme. The Art and Visual Culture MA is an interdisciplinary, visual theory-based course established around the belief that visual literacy and the impact of visual forms of thinking and working play significant roles in our society. In the course, we interrogate visual perception and representation in high and popular culture, explore how these produce meanings, and how such meanings shape societies and individuals.

The practicing and development of drawing skills as the base of the visual and imagery creation and through this the stimulation of a personal artistic way of observing, thinking and representing the world. The course makes known the basic rudiments and techniques of painting in the first years and then gradually grows towards becoming an artist.

The MFA Drawing gives you the opportunity to develop drawing practice in a supportive, nurturing environment through a challenging and stimulating program of modules. Each module will build and develop drawing and research enquires to provide a creative and intellectual framework for the exploration of current attitudes and phenomena in the context of contemporary drawing practice.

Develop your art practice in a supportive, collegiate, and nurturing environment, thanks to our student-centered approach to research, learning, and teaching. You’ll have the opportunity to work across the traditionally medium‐defined boundaries imposed by many fine art programs. In this highly interdisciplinary course, we encourage interaction between disciplines by exploring visual knowledge and expression across a range of platforms.

MA Fine Art (Curatorial Practice) at Bath Spa is designed for students who wish to broaden their knowledge and experience of gallery practice, models of curating and the changing nature of the museum.

Learn to adopt an interdisciplinary and material-led approach, based on experimentation, risk-taking and personal innovation.

​Facing a world that is more and more focused on quick results, profit maximalisation and protocols, the interrelational approach of art is first of all an open-ended way of working, which focuses on processes, instead of products. It also focusses on relations under pressure; the relations between people, between people and nature, people and technology, economical production processes and ecologies etc.

The Master of Fine Arts Program will challenge and support independently motivated artists in their intellectual, philosophical, and artistic development. The graduate program encourages lifelong learning, career success, and community involvement.

The research can be conducted by means of a dissertation (BKS 858), a dissertation and solo exhibition (BKS 859) or a dissertation and curated exhibition (BKS 860).

An acceptable level of proficiency in English or Afrikaans is required.

Contemporary Art Practice (CAP) at the Royal College of Art is a cutting-edge MA programme in the School of Arts & Humanities that is driven by a post-medium, critical approach to the making and reception of art, where theory and practice come together to form new ways of responding to the contemporary world. The programme supports the development of your art practice within a responsive, dialogical and critical context with an emphasis on wider political issues – interrogating art production in relation to urgent socio-political contexts as well as questioning and redefining practice.

MA Design that focuses in Animation allows practitioners in animation to explore opportunities that cross established boundaries or develop in-depth aspects of practice beyond usual levels. This postgraduate course aims to develop the student's personal philosophies on design with a view to developing a personal area of specialism.

MA Fine Art is a studio-based course that is aimed at those who wish to develop the critical, research, practical, and professional aspects of their art practice at the highest level. This interdisciplinary programme encourages creative risk-taking and intellectual inquiry. Alongside a strong emphasis on the richness and breadth of art from around the world, staff and students on the programme are encouraged to take an active role in Lincoln’s contemporary art community.

MA Fine Art at Chelsea is designed to help enhance the making, criticality and articulation of your practice. It aims to expand your work’s audiences and contextual reach. Experimental studio practice and individual inquiry are activated in professional contexts. These challenge what art is or could be, how art is communicated, and how artists can develop their practices in forward-thinking and culturally progressive ways.

MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins supports a broad range of experimental practices. It will test and challenge your practice, bringing it into a contemporary critical context. Our research-based teaching strategies actively seek to extend your experience and skills. We work responsively to your changing needs as individuals. We also encourage collaborative projects in relation to your work.
