Whether you want to explore fiction film, documentary, experimental media, installation art, or interactive media, our Film and Media Art (MFA) will give you the expertise you need. Work with image and sound to entertain, inform, persuade, and challenge, using both traditional and emergent media forms. Develop an understanding of the disciplines of 16mm and digital film and audio, and interactive media production, bringing this understanding to bear on traditional and convergent media works. Our program offers three distinct entry points depending on your prior experience and varies in length from 2-3 years, allowing students with a variety of life experiences and diverse academic backgrounds to inspire each other’s artistic development. Once you are admitted to the program, we work with you to create a custom curriculum based on your professional and educational goals.

Emerson’s Creative Writing (MFA) program focuses on the practice of writing and its literary foundations and is one of the longest-running programs of its kind. We know writing is your life. That’s why our Creative Writing (MFA) focuses on the actual practice of writing, as well as its literary foundations. Our MFA program boasts some of the most impressive faculty in writing and publishing, is home to two award-winning literary journals, and is strongly connected to the Boston publishing community. Focus on your passion, choosing from the areas of literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and explore writing as both an art form and a professional pursuit.

Our low-residency MFA program is structured around three consecutive four-week summer intensive residencies on campus in Vancouver during the month of July, with innovative and interactive online coursework in between.

The Visual Development MFA program provides advanced coursework in still life painting, figure drawing, character design, concept painting, layout design for animation, and other core skills of professional visual developers. The goal of each graduate student is the completion of a signature thesis book showcasing design work for a story-based project.

The MA program provides students an opportunity to work in 2D Animation & Stop Motion, 3D Animation, 3D Modeling, or Visual Effects, while focusing on storytelling with an emphasis on exhibiting technical skills and eliciting emotional responses.

The Master of Fine Art program provides students a framework for advanced study in drawing and painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Students are focused on technical and conceptual development in figurative, abstract, or landscape work. The School of Fine Art provides graduate students with studio space, exhibition galleries, and world-class facilities.

The MFA in Animation & Visual Effects program focuses on developing skills in any one of the many areas of expertise within the animation and visual effects industry. The program educates students in all aspects of animation and visual effects, from ideation to post-production. Communication, collaboration, and time management skills are emphasized throughout the program to ensure graduates are acclimated to the intense professional culture that awaits them.

Art Center’s graduate program in Media Design Practices offers a two- or three-year Master of Fine Arts curriculum that helps ambitious designers from a variety of backgrounds become design leaders and researchers in emerging fields.

Write the book you're meant to write, as you earn your Mountainview Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in fiction or nonfiction. Our two-year, low-residency program allows students to live anywhere and work a full-time job. We never allow the number of students to exceed 65 total about 16 per cohort so our students develop close and sustaining relationships with faculty during our intensive weeklong residencies in June and January.

The Art Practice program offers an interdisciplinary approach to an MFA degree. Artists in the program are not defined or separated by medium or discipline. The students in our program engage in research-based practices and are encouraged to converse and collaborate across subject matters using a combination of traditional and non-traditional media, technologies and techniques.

SFAI’s two-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program provides a dynamic interdisciplinary context for students to advance their work while being exposed to the current theoretical and sociopolitical context for contemporary art. Questions, dialogue, and invention drive students through the curriculum, which instructs in the skills and practices needed to sustain a lifelong practice in the arts. The concept is emphasized alongside technical proficiency and skill, and artists are encouraged to experiment widely across media. Students may choose an area of emphasis, or maintain breadth in their studies.

The Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture provides the tools and language for students to become rigorous thinkers and artists in the twenty-first century. The program interweaves the significant demands of creative production, intellectual and theoretical inquiry, and critical engagement with cultural history and contemporary art discourse.

The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is a low residency graduate program, which requires two weeks of residency every summer in Eastern Oregon and completing online courses and individualized study with MFA faculty the rest of the two-year curriculum.
