The Academic Master in Fabrics Innovation Design is addressed to graduates willing to enrich their curriculum with a study path focused on culture, creativity research innovation and fabrics development, one of the most challenging and fast-growing fields of the entire fashion industry. The creative exploration in textile requires a complex mix of knowledge and abilities accompanied by a deep cultural background, both in that specific field, in fashion and in art in general. The Master course centers the entire study path on the theme of textile innovation and research.

The Specializing Master trains designers able to work both in the field of garments and in urban and agonistic sportswear, but also in those areas where are required skills able to combine technical materials, new technologies and style.

Beyond the understanding of performance and the role of character creation through costume, the study of Costume Design at MA level allows you to locate your practice within the wider realms of contemporary culture and art, as well as within the relevant dramatic, social and political contexts.

MA Design (Ceramics); MA Design (Furniture); MA Design (Jewellery) will develop your creative abilities, imagination and expertise. It offers three pathways: Ceramics, Furniture and Jewellery. These disciplines all have a rich tradition in material-led creativity. Framed within one course, we explore the evolving boundaries of these disciplines, embracing ideas of practice beyond traditional definitions. This allows a range of hybrid practices to emerge, disrupting assumptions around design, craft and manufacture. The course focuses on design as a process and as a practice. We look at design as modes of thinking, as ways of communicating to audiences and systems of engagement with the materiality of the world. These factors will impact the way your ceramics, furniture or jewellery design work will be realised. It will influence how you design it, talk about it, debate it and how you write about it. We are interested in all forms of manufacturing – from master craftsmanship, artisan work and the hand-made to factory production and emerging technologies. Our students are interested in single artefacts, mass-market delivery and all stages in-between.

The course gives creative fashion design practitioners chance to explore personal interests at postgraduate level, underpinned by extensive research, and combined with benefits of debate and peer review. The individual will subsequently be able to view their role as fashion designer within the industry of the future.
