The programme in Digital Media Technology focuses on enabling technologies for digital media systems, including technologies for analysing media, generating interactive media, processing and coding, optimising wired and wireless transfer, and distributing digital 3D contents. Graduates of the DMT programme will be both specialists and innovators that are able to shape future digital media technology. The first year will be similar at both DMT entry point universities KTH and TU Delft with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, web services, and communication networks. The second year will accommodate the technical specialisation. The programme will offer six specialisations: (1) Hypermedia, (2) Media Processing and Communications, (3) Medical Imaging, (4) Media Communications Services, (5) Virtual Environments, (6) Semantic Media. Programme The first year is similar at the two entry points with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, programming web services and internet communication. In addition, some elective courses may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. An important part of the programme are the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) courses. The I&E basics course provides an introduction to business and management. The Business Development Lab extends media systems engineering projects by a market survey, a business model generation process, and a venture development exercise. We emphasize user driven innovation and holistic analysis of service, technology, organisation and financial perspectives, as new media technologies are disruptive for existing business models and almost always have a significant impact on the culture and social relations. Society-relevant themes will also be at the core of the summer schools, which will bring students from the different entry points together. Students participating in the DMT track are offered an internship with an industry partner or research centre of the EIT Digital to work on their thesis project. Directly linked to the master thesis is the I&E minor thesis that specifies the requirements, strategy and business plan for the selected thesis project. The I&E thesis allows students to study issues such as user driven digital media innovation and evaluation of user experience social media digital media ecosystem analysis, business models for content providers in the context of next generation networks, role of video communication and collaboration tools in enterprises, business aspects of e-health and telemedicine services. The European Master in Lexicography (EMLex) is an international Master’ s degree programme (120 ECTS) that has been offered by the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg since 2009. It includes a joint summer semester abroad for all students in cooperation with the following universities and institutions: Partner universities Károli Gáspár Református Egyetem Budapest Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach (Kattowitz) Université de Lorraine Universidade do Minho Universita degli Studi Roma Tre Universidade de Santiago de Compostela [1] [2] Stellenbosch University Associated partners Universität Hildesheim Institut für Deutsche Sprache Mannheim University of Texas at Austin Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul Basic idea and general objectives The master programme EMLex is an international course of studies that promotes the international and interdisciplinary training of lexicographers (unique in Germany and Europe in its present structure) teaches lexicographical theories on a high international level includes a distinct connection to the practical application of dictionary creation brings together students from different European countries. Post-graduates will be qualified to work both as lexicographers at a publishing company and as academic lexicographers in all fields of lexicography, starting from the conception of printed and electronic dictionaries and specific lexicographical tasks through to the technical realization of lexicographical products. Besides, they will recieve profound training in the theoretical field of modern lexicography, which will enable them to conduct scientific research or to work in an advisory position in the field of publishing and further education. The four-semester programme can be taken up each winter term; the second semester is completed abroad. The programme corresponds to the regulations of the Bologna process: The overall number of ECTS points granted is 120 (the modules have either 5 or 10 ECTS points). The total number of students who are registered for EMLex at the participating universities is limited to 30 per year, which is due to the particular design of the block seminars during the summer term. These seminars constitute the key components of the programme’ s international orientation. Students are expected to conduct large amounts of private study, because a considerable degree of self-motivation is required. The modules are either e-learning-modules, specific lexicography modules or import modules from other courses of study. The post-graduates will be absolute specialists Europe-wide because such a master degree programme in lexicography is unique in Germany and Europe, even more so with regard to its international form of organization. In addition to the usual master degree at the university, the students will receive an extra certificate in which the internationality of the contents of the studies is documented. Conditions of admission The admission to the master programme is subject to special conditions: A first academic degree with a mark above average and a special entrance examination (cf. examination regulations). A basic command of German and English, which can be deepened in the first semester, is essential for participation in the programme because the lectures will be held in these two languages. A proficiency level of B1 or higher (Common European Framework of Reference) is recommended from the beginning. Curriculum The curriculum places an emphasis on the following lexicographical topics: Typology of dictionaries, dictionary research, metalexicography, history of lexicography, corpus work, research of dictionary usage, user needs and preconditions of usage, critical dictionary research, functions of dictionaries, bilingual lexicography, lexicographical data, applied lexicography, work in the lexicographical workshop, lexicographical tools, lexicography for special purposes, terminology and terminography, computational lexicography, electronic dictionaries, encyclopaedic dictionaries, learner lexicography, lexicology, etymology.
