A Masters degree is an academic degree awarded to individuals who successfully denote a higher level of expertise. There are two main types of Masters - taught and research.

Programs focused on sustainable energy provide students with knowledge surrounding alternative, more environmentally friendly forms of energy. Some common topics may include renewable energy transportation systems, thermodynamics, wind energy, nuclear engineering, solar thermal energy applications and energy systems management.

Qatar, is a sovereign Arab state, located in Western Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the much larger Arabian Peninsula. Education City is a fairly new undertaking in Doha funded by the Qatari Government through the Qatar Foundation. It is the home to Qatar Academy, the Learning Centre, the Academic Bridge Program (similar to a college prep school), as well as branch campus of Texas A&M University (Engineering).

A key component for both degrees is original, guided research in energy science and technologies that support sustainable development. The multidisciplinary approach to the curricula allows for engagement in cross-disciplinary science and builds fundamental knowledge that evolves with the developments within the energy field, equipping graduates with the tools needed to pursue a wide variety of career. Admissions requirements Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree relevant to this program, which typically includes science and engineering. Additionally, backgrounds in economic, business, policy, and social sciences will be considered. Applicants should demonstrate strong evidence supporting the prospect that they will become successful researchers and professionals. These include excellent performance in relevant coursework, past research results if any, and strong recommendation letters. Applicants with prior research experience are preferred. Applicants are required to take the IELTS or TOEFL exam in order to demonstrate their proficiency in English. Applicants who are fluent in English may be exempt from this requirement. While not required for the master’s programs the GRE exam is recommended and will strengthen an applicant’s submission.
