The MSc in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt University is a programme of lectures and project work that encompasses a wide range of petroleum engineering fundamentals pertinent to the modern petroleum industry.

Energy Technology research covers many areas, including sustainable technology, conventional technology, and energy efficiency and conservation. The MPhil program focuses on strengthening students' knowledge in certain areas of Civil and Structural Engineering and exposing them to the issues involved in the conception, design, construction, maintenance, and use of structures and facilities.

The MSc in Petroleum Geosciences is a research-intensive program at an internationally recognized center of excellence in education and research in petroleum geology and geophysics. Upon completion of the MSc in Petroleum Geosciences, graduates will be able to apply knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, geology, and geophysics to formulate solutions to various geoscience problems.

The goal of this program is to graduate master-level petroleum engineers who are highly qualified for a rewarding professional experience. Graduates may choose to work in the petroleum industry, continue on to other graduate-level degrees, or join consulting/contracting companies.
