The objective of communication is to influence the knowledge, behaviour and attitudes of people. Therefore, we hack into city spaces, we create computer games for alcoholics, we change the way patients perceive waiting time, we design way-finding by use of sound, or we design posters for dyslexics. Communication Design connects not only with the school’s key values (social inclusion, sustainability, and cultural diversity) but also with its mission to create sustainable futures. All communication requires at least two people. In traditional media theory described as sender and receiver.
During your study the main subjects are: how to inform in an objective way – to improve communication by strategy – to bring awareness or change behaviour, or how to deliver a holistic service or experience by interaction.
To load design effectively with value, the programme focuses on the post concept phase: strategy, validation and framing. That’s of course, beside the well known pre-concept phase: research, analysing/synthesising and idea generation.... [-]

Master in Textile DesignIn Textile Design we educate design collaborators who are well-grounded to work in teams that reach beyond the discipline’s own boundaries, for example with industry in general, architects, the fashion industry and others who work with visual narratives. For the same reasons, the students develop the ability to inquire into and reflect on contemporary life and society in all its complexity. Without an understanding of the paradoxes of our time, it is impossible to develop and facilitate projects that are relevant. We ensure this approach by choosing students who have a natural aptitude to engage these issues and who display an obvious interest and curiosity in their surroundings. We strengthen this by ensuring that the students are part of a department that employs a broad range of guest teachers who master their métier.A sense of ethics, as regards textile projects and their narratives, are as much a part of the discipline as are considerations of sustainability and resources when designing for industrial production.... Master of Industrial DesignAs a result of the transition from an industrialised society to a knowledge and communication-based society, Industrial Design is a discipline in rapid development.More products than ever before are being manufactured, but regrettably, levels of quality vary. As products become more intelligent and communicative, demands on them change. A product’s sense of value is now less that of the material and more of what it can do and what can be done with it.In the Industrial Design domain, students work with classic skills of sketching, marker drawing, 3D computer modelling and model making. However, students are also, to a greater extent, involved with concept development that, in more general terms, considers users in contexts of the future and the immaterial values that products bear with them. Hence, user-observation and interaction mapping have become core areas of the discipline.Industrial Design emphasises idea generation and visualisation as much as collaboration with industry and other professionals such as marketing experts, economists, engineers, sociologists and anthropologists.Industrial Design has an ongoing collaboration with a range of companies in both teaching and project development, amongst others Bang and Olufsen, Lego, Innovation Lab and Kildemoes....
