Much of our research looks at the problems of managing knowledge and information in the context of emerging computational infrastructures such as next-generation Web systems and cloud computing, and in the automatic generation of natural language tailored for the reader. A key problem is helping humans make decisions and take actions when faced with a vast amount of available data and information.

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 70% of Computing Science research at Aberdeen was assessed to be world leading and internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour (20% at 4* and 50% at 3*), with 100% of our research being internationally recognised (2* or above) and a quarter of our research publications being world leading (4*).
