Masters in Computing in Stockholm in Sweden. The programme in Cloud Computing and Services focuses on a broad range of applications like electronic commerce, mobile services, online social networks, peer-to-peer systems and Web services. What is common to all of these applications is that information sources and control are decentralised over the network and multiple data centres and their underlying systems become distributed, reconfigurable and adaptive. All this makes the process of developing distributed software systems significantly more complex than for centralised systems. Cloud Computing and Services will provide students with a system of knowledge both in formal foundations, technological platforms and practical skills in implementing distributed software applications. The programme will also provide an insight into current and future directions of the distributed software development. After completion of the study, students understand and know how to use large distributed systems. On top of this they are also capable of designing and constructing cloud computing systems and services on networking and computing infrastructures. The programme will offer six specialisations: (1) Mobile Services, (2) Cloud and Data Analytics, (3) Cloud Infrastructures, (4) Data Intensive Computing, (5) Distributed Information Management, (6) Distributed Data Processing. Programme During the first year, a similar set of courses are offered at the four involved entry points Aalto University, TU Berlin, University Rennes 1 and TU Delft. This includes distributed systems, advanced network technologies, service technologies and cloud programming models. In addition, some elective cours-es may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. The Master’s programme in Computer Science is designed to function as the final two years of the corresponding Civil Engineering programme. Students can choose to specialise in a wide range of topics, and have a high degree of flexibility in selecting elective courses. A suitable background before entering this programme is an undergraduate education adhering to the ACM recommendations for Computer Science curricula. Programme outline The first semester is mainly devoted to compulsory courses, after which the student chooses a track of specialisation. With the track courses as a foundation, the students are able to design their own study plan by selecting from a large set of elective courses. The currently offered tracks are: - Autonomous Systems - Computer Security - IT-Management with Enterprise Architecture - Programme System Technology - Language Technology - Theoretical Computer Science - Computational Biology - Sound and Music Computing Degree project The last semester is dedicated to the Master’s degree project, leading to a corresponding thesis. The project is preferably on a topic connected to the track chosen, and can be executed as an internship in industry or locally within a research group. Career prospects There is a high demand for qualified experts in Computer Science and IT in general. Students from the Computer Science Master’s programme are very attractive for both large and small companies, but they are also well suited for entering an academic career.
